Bus 29 to Don Muang airport

Today I took bus 29 from BKK Train Station to Don Muang Airport.

Red bus, no AC, but windows all open and nice breeze. Saw blue 29 buses with AC plying the same route.

Despite comments to the contrary, plenty of spare seats and ample room for bags.

This was in mid-morning. Total time- just over 1 hour. Departs every 10 minutes or so!

Kindly conductor showed me where to get off. 14 THB fare.

If I were doing it again i would take metro to Mo Chit and get the bus from there and maybe save a bit of time.

Chinese Visa Sticky

Until recently, it was relatively easy to get a Chinese visa. The situation has changed beginning about mid March and it is expected to remain unstable until well after the Olympics.
It is now impossible to get a 6 or 12 month multiple entry business visa.
It is now impossible to get entries longer than 30 days.
In many embassies and consulates it would appear impossible to get a double entry tourist visa.
It has been reported that beginning July, it may be difficult to impossible to get extensions.

From Hong Kong's South China Morning Post, April 6:
"Beijing has stopped issuing multiple-entry visas, risking major inconvenience to foreigners who travel to the mainland regularly, especially on business. Hong Kong travel agents say the ban will stay in place until after the Olympic Games.
+Travellers are now restricted to single- or double-entry visas valid for 30 days. ... more »

Family with teens in NZ in January--book ahead or wing in?

We are a family of 4 (14 and 12 year old daughters) who are planning to spend the month of January in NZ. We are flying into QTown on January 3 and renting a car. We plan to fly out of Auckland about a month later. Since it is the busy season, do we need to make reservations ahead of time, or should we be able to find places to stay along the way? We want to have flexibility so that we can linger in places we love and not have the pressure of a strict itinerary. We are happy staying in family dorm rooms, B&Bs, farm stays, apartments, etc. Our budget is $100-150 US/night. I'm just worried that we will have trouble finding places that can accommodate a family on short notice in January.

Thanks so much for your feedback!

Mekong Delta River Cruises

Interested in doing a Mekong Delta Cruise in January 2014. Has anyone recently used Mekong Eyes on a 2 or 3 day river cruise? Also should we prebook from home in Canada or just wait till we get to Vietnam? Any other tour company that anyone can recommend for a delta boat cruise? Thanks for any input.

Anyone going to exit festival in Serbia this year? I'm keen to go but since I'm travelling alone, was wondering if anyone was going. Never been to a festival by myself and thought it would be good to meet someone.

Overnight train from Budapest to Split, Croatia

How much does the overnight train from Budapest to Split, Croatia cost? Does it still run only on Tuesdays and Fridays? Also, what is the cheapest way to get from Split to Athens, Greece, maybe going thru Dubrovnik, which I would like to visit?
