Advice needed - Mumbai to Ajanta/Ellora, then to Hampi

Good Morning:

Planning our southern India trip one step at a time. Arriving in Mumbai. First stops after Mumbai is to see Ajanta and Ellora caves.

How does flying from Mumbai to Aurangabad and then day trips by bus to Ajanta and Ellora from Aurangabad sound? Any recommendations for places to stay (mid range, clean, AC, private bathroom) in Aurangabad?

Next, we may go to Hampi. Should we go back to Mumbai and fly? Is there a way to get to Hampi by train from Mumbai? Or, should we fly to Hyderabad from Aurangabad, or fly to Hyderabad from Mumbai and then take a bus or train to Hampi?

All suggestions gratefully accepted. Thank you.

Doug

Possibly ruining my chances of getting an Aus and NZ working holiday visa??

Hiya,
I'm getting really confused as to whether my travel plans will effect me getting a working holiday visa for Aus and NZ.

I'm 26 and next month I head off to spend a couple of years travelling, working and volunteering through Asia. I'm aware by doing this my residency status in the UK may change from 'ordinary resident' to 'non resident'. I know that this is mainly for tax reasons and it doesn't effect my UK passport holding status but will it effect my chances of getting both Aus and NZ visa's?

After Asia I wanted to go to Aus for a year then apply for a second year then apply for a year in NZ, or maybe NZ first then Aus.

I think the first application should be OK but by the time I get to the third I will have been away from the UK for 4 years.

Any advice??

English Teaching Assistant in China

Not for me, but for a younger relative, who is thinking of being a English teaching assistant in China for a few months during her gap year.

Does anyone have information about this? I think her family would prefer something organised and legit - does the British Council or similar organisations do anything like that? I'm concerned about private companies who will charge a large fee, and then basically stick her in a class or 40+ kids as the actual teacher rather than the assistant.

So, if anyone has done this type of job, or has any extra information it would be appreciated.

Balkans Road Trip

Hi,

I'm flying into Sofia beginning of July and below is a rough route I plan to take by car

1. Lake Ohrid ( Macedonia )
2. Berat ( Albania )
3. Tirana (Albania )
4. Sveti Stefan ( Montenegro )
5. Kotor ( Montenegro )
6. Dubrovnik ( Croatia )
7. Mostar ( Bosnia )
8. Durmitor National Park ( Montenegro )
9. Peje/Prizren ( Kosovo )
10. Lake Vlasina ( Serbia )
11. Veliko Tarnova ( Bulgaria )
12. Sofia ( Bulgaria )

I'll be travelling with my girlfriend, both mid-to-late- 20s. We both enjoy a mix of beaches, natural landscapes (waterfalls, lakes, mountains etc), old cities & ruins, and late but moderate night-life.

I'm now beginning the research for places of interest all along this route but would greatly appreciate any advice, tips and precautions from people who have already been lucky enough to visit these places.

I already have written permission from the Bul... more »

Monaco F1 Grand Prix

Howdy Fellow Travellers,

With the Monaco F1 Grand Prix on this weekend, I would like to ask you for any tips and tricks for seeing the race next year. Ideally I'd like to be in a hotel overlooking the track but is this completely unrealistic? I'm willing to spend hundreds but not thousands. I must admit I'm not a huge F1 fan but if I'm going to see one race I figured the Monaco one should be it.

Is it very difficult to get tickets to the event itself? Is there some cheeky spot where you can watch the whole thing for free, from a distance?

I look forward to your stories and advice.

merci

Yangtze River on a Chinese Boat

HI there,

Looking to travel up the Yangtze on a Chinese boat, not over run with tourists. Would like if it still stopped a bit so we could explore. Has anyone done this of know where I can get info about it.

I have found this website, but I can't tell if it is just a Chinese version of the same touristy boat

group tour - bottled water dillema

hi,
im going on a 17 day group tour of Turkey and Im reading about the hotels we are staying in. Im finding that many of them have an outrageous policy of not allowing any outside food or drink, YES even water. Most of the hotels charge about 4 euros for a bottle, and i drink at least 6 a day - i will go broke!
there are grocery stores nearby but they say that they check your bags and will confiscate purchases until you leave. One travelocity review even said that the maid found outside water in her room and they charged them the hotel's price for that water!!
so im pretty sure i could sneak in a water or 2, BUT is there something i could buy to purify the tap water? i do have a mini electric tea kettle - would boiling it be enough? (so i guess i would have to buy one hotel water to refill so i could be seen outside of my room with it!).
It is hard to believe that the hotels a... more »

Miles and More fees/taxes for frequent flyer ticket

I'm living in Spain and will be heading back to the USA for good at the end of December. With a few small purchases, I will have enough points for a one-way ticket home. I won't have enough to cover the taxes and fees of the flight though. What can I expect? I'm trying to decide if its even worth it or if I should save my miles.

Learning Spanish in Nicargua

Hi there,

I am keen to continue learning Spanish when i eventually reach Nicaragua, but i am unsure on the quality of the schools.

I have studied in Guatemala (Xela), and they have some excellent Spanish schools. What is the quality like in Nic, and where should i look at going too?

Thanks!

How do I get from Washington Dulles airport to downtown Baltimore?

Hi,

I was talked in to flying in to Washington instead of straight to Baltimore (because I travel from Europe and would save time not changeing flights in the US because someone said I would have to do the immigration-part twice then).

Now I'm ripping my hair trying to find a decent transportation from the airport. The advice from the travel agent I used was to take a cab from the airport to Washington and then the Amtrak to Baltimore. That sounds both complicated and not too cost effective...

Looked at the super shuttle, but they seem to charge 150 dollars one way for the ride?
I would be very grateful for some advice from fellow travellers. :)

HELP_connection time in Brisbane Airport

Hello.
I would very appreciate your help if someone has experience in international connection flights in Brisbane !!!

We already booked our flights from Zurich to Brisbane and are about to buy the connection flight with Solomon Airlines to Honiara for the same day.

ARRIVE 30AUG13 BRISBANE 06:05
Departure 30 AUG13 Brisbane-Honiara 09:30

Supposing we have no delay from our flight from Zurich-Dubai-Brisbane, and that check in would close around 08:30......*we would have about 2 hours 25 min in Brisbane, to get out of the plane, take the luggage, border/passport controls, and go to the Solomon Airlines counter.

Do you think we could get it or its to risky and we probably would loose the connection? Solomon airlines flight are really expensive to buy a new one at the airport if we'd loose it....

Alternatively we would have to... more »

Anyone heading to the Guineas?

I arrive in Dakar in 2 weeks and will be heading to GB and Guinea there afterwards in about 2.5 weeks. If any travelers are heading that way around then, I wouldn't mind meeting up and maybe slitting the cost of some transport and/or just sharing a beer. BTW, for those with communication problems in the region, I speak passable French and Portuguese.
