Ok so im planning a 3 week holiday in Thailand in September and am rather clueless and also a little bit nervous about it! I am going alone . I am a 25 year old very sociable guy but is it really that easy to meet people? I want to spend maybe a week in Bangkok then head off the beaton track for a few days to take in the culture a bit then head towards the south to have some time on a beach and see some of the islands n do anything else in-between that anyone could recommend? the last thing is that i will have a spending money budget of about £3000 for the time im there and am wondering if that will b enough to b comfortable and enjoy myself as well as being enough for internal flights/boats/trains or whatever other means of transport ill need to get and also for accommodation? I appoloise for my stupidity on this but iv never travelled anywhere like this before so any help would b mu... more »
seeking advice from experts on the region... your thoughts would be a big help!
here's my proposed itenerary for 6 months (sept-feb) in mayalsia/indonesia/philippines.
arrive manila 8/30
fly to KK immediately (easy & cheap)
2 months (sept/oct) in malaysian borneo (mostly heading west)
1 month (nov) in indonesian borneo (heading east toward balikpapan--are flights required?)
1 month (dec) in either: Sulawesi -- or -- Maluku -- or -- ???? - so many options for indonesia, and so little visa time (expect to have 60 day tourist visa).
(then find my way back to the philippines, somehow...)
2 months (jan/feb) in the philippines, depart manila, end of trip.
I'm traveling alone (male).
I've traveled though peninsular malaysia before, so that's not on the itinerary.
using manila as start and end point because of reasonable round trip flight cost from san francisco.

Can anyone confirm that you can buy a Laos visa from the land border crossing at Bo Y in Vietnam? Do you know the visa cost too?
I am in saigon now trying to organise the trip but want to be sure you can get a visa at the border as tour operators here are quoting $65 for the visa if bought here in saigon! Found the following thread with great info on this with bus routes too but it would be good to hear that someone has recently been to this border and bought a visa at the border and also had no problems with buses in to Laos either to Attupea or Pakse maybe...
I'm a fan of primates, but have never seen a wild chimp. I'll be in Ghana in August/September, and I'm curious if there are any good chimp-spotting places. Reading online, it sounds like Ankasa/Nini Parks are my best place to try and see a wild chimp. I'll be spending some time near Axim or Takoradi on the coast, will I be able to organize a day tour or private driver to that area on arrival, or should I look for tour companies before I set out for Ghana? Thanks!
I am a college student who will be studying abroad Spring 2012 or Fall 2013, with Spring 2012 as more likely. I would be based in Barcelona, Spain at Ramón Llull and would like to do as much traveling as possible. As for accommodations abroad, I plan to stay in hostels, as they are cheaper and more authentic than an average hotel. My budget will be around 10-11k for the semester (5-6 months with a week or two for pure travel after school ends) and for trains and planes, I would use economy and second-class. With the exception of a spring break (7-10 days), my trips would primarily consist of weekend ventures, either Thursday overnight trains or Friday flights. I plan to visit several Spanish cities, among them Seville, Andalucía, Ibiza, Madríd, Cadíz, with anymore open to suggestion. I would like to travel to as many of these as possible, but I would like input on what is... more »
I'm allergic to caesin (milk protein) and therefore have to avoid milk and milk products (other than that I eat everything).
Now a slab of cheese or tub of ice-cream is easy to avoid but it's the hidden dairy that I have to be careful with. I assume that Costa Ricans cook with lard or oil, not butter, is that correct? And what about bread - does it generally contain milk? Or not?
Do you know of any typical dishes that don't appear to contain milk products but do?
I am trying to figure out the best way to get from Austria to Venice, Italy. I can't decide whether to try and leave from Salzburg or Graz. I know Graz is closer (I think at least) but it looks like Salzburg is a bigger city with more/cheaper buses/trains. Any recommendations as far as where to leave from (either Salzburg or Graz) and how to leave (bus, train, etc.) would be awesome!! This would done on the 9th or 10th of August, and I don't mind overnight trains.
I'm arriving on Saturday to Guatemala City and just now reading about the Volcan Fuego eruption. Does anybody have details on the state of the airport, the severity of the eruption, the condition of roads and highways, etc? I've read the AP and Reuters reports, so any concrete information from the ground in Antigua (or elsewhere) would be much appreciated.
I've just bought a ticket to Brazil via Argentina, entering at EZE and exiting at AEP. I've heard that there is a bus transfer between airports. Has anyone used this, and will I have pass though immigration before transiting. Being Australian means I incur a hefty charge at immigration and it would be great if I could avoid this.

As the post title implies, I have two questions about LA.
Firstly- I am looking at booking a budget hotel REALLY close to the entrance gates of Disneyland. I have googled this without much luck. Disneyland runs along 4 streets. Does it have gates on every street? Or is there just one major gate on a particular street?
Secondly- LA limo tours. Has anyone taken one? Loved it? Hated it? Recommend a reputable company? I do not want to do the Stars homes, more Hollywood sign and LA town and everything. There are a few that do them, I just don't want to give my credit card details over the phone to a business that isn't going to show up on the day. If we do go to New York, I'd like something similar for there too but have had no such luck finding anything.
HELLO, i am right here in Argentina and nobody dares to speak about Paraguay. Is it safe to travel to Assuncion? I am in the north of Argentina and thought to go there to visit at least the capital. which hostel would you recommend please? Other towns/cities?
We will be in Dushanbe on 22 May. We would like to find cheap place (5-10 USD) to stay for 2-3 nights. Thank you for any informations and suggestions.
Hi, I'm plannng my trip to Bolivia in April. Just wanted to know if there's any way (taxi or minibus) to get from Tiwanaku to Copacabana (don't want to do the trip back to La Paza and from there back again to Copacabana). Our idea is to take a bus to Tiwanaku and from there find some way to get to Copacabana. If anyone has any idea on how to do this, I'be grateful. Many thanks in advance!!!
