New format country overview website pages
Hi there
I notice that the website format has been changed, and now the country/region overview content is no longer accessible. These brief overviews were a great source of information, not only for travel but to get a brief insight into a country without sifting wikipedia. It is unfortunate that they are no longer accessible.
Is there some other way I can access them? If you use the website search tool, the search results still bring up the overview content, but the resulting link is devoid of content. Help!
PM archive & How to get in touch with other members
Hi all,
We have now added an option to the profile settings page for Twitter handles and Skype usernames to be displayed publicly on your profile page if you wish - this option is the alternative to Private Messaging in Thorn Tree from now on, as PM functionality won't be coming back. To add your Twitter/Skype usernames, just go to your profile page and then click on Settings at the top. The Twitter and Skype fields will appear underneath 'Country'. Suffice to say Lonely Planet is not responsible for communications on Twitter or Skype. Twitter and Skype have separate terms and conditions which apply if you want to use them. We understand this may be disappointing to some of you, but it is the best solution we have found following our review and amendment of our guidelines.
With regards to the archive of Private Messages currently existing in Thorn Tree, there are plans to open i...

Managing Your Business Page
Hello! I'm hoping to get some answers from other people that manage their business's page on Lonely Planet. We're an adventure activity in Thailand called Flight of the Gibbon. We currently have the most votes under "things to do in Chiang Mai" but are listed as #2 to another attraction with less votes! Does anyone know why this is?

New Format LP Guides
I saw the first of these "New Look" guides (Bali & Lombok, Taiwan) yesterday.
Wonder what other readers think of them?
I only had a brief look through, but the major change I noted was that the colour intro pages are now printed on flimsy, thin, cheap-looking paper instead of the old glossy one.
Otherwise, the only major change I noticed was introducing a lot of dull blue colour in the main part of the books.
Will have to have a better look to see how much the content has changed... hope nothing horrible has been done! ;-)

Dear Lonely Planet Thorn Tree II
You have now made it impossible to tell whether I am signed in or not, because near the top, at the right, it always says "Sign-In Join" whether I am signed in or not.
LP collecter
Hi ya,
I collect LPs, and am interested in chatting with others who collect also.
My bookshelf includes all sorts of Lonely Planet publications, with an emphasise on SEA, and the Wheelers early days.
I have a few doubles is anyone wants to swap.

All about LP
I posted this on All about LP but it didn't immediately post...since in the post I said I was going to crosspost to this forum it may not appear here either...but the news is out there...
Quote text of thread:
Cross posting to WE as those forum members seem to ask good questions.
Lonely Planet hires CTO from within in first leadership move in post-BBC world
http://skift.com/2013/06/11/lonely-planet-makes-first-moves-in-post-bbc-world/
Comment from SKIFT: "LP has a formidable challenge ahead of it as Google has signified that it wants to own travel and has the resources to reach consumers at every step of the way as well as hire whoever it wants to make this happen. "
End quote.

'Please enter a subject' bug
Some users have reported that when they start a new topic, they click 'post message', then get an error message saying 'please enter a subject' even though they have entered a subject.
Usually if you try a second time the post will go through, but obviously we need to get to the bottom of this error.
If this has happened to you, can you let us know?

Goodbye
Hi all,
This was never going to be an easy message to type so I'll try to be brief: from next week onwards I will be stepping down from my duties as Community Manager for Lonely Planet. It has been a bit of a roller coaster ride, particularly in the last few months, but I am proud to have been part of this community and I hope that it manages to pull through this particular bump. I know that the powers that be at Lonely Planet have big plans for their communities in the pipeline. I also know that what most of you guys want is a simple, efficient, user-friendly, stable and open forum to carry on doing what you do, which is being the best travel forum on the net (and I can say that now with no bias as I am leaving). Rest assured that this message has been passed to the relevant stakeholders and the remaining members of the moderation team are still committed to it.
I would also li...

Please, stop the madness!
I'm not referring to the insane plague of bugs which has once again made the site nearly unusable over the last few days.
I'm taking about the ridiculous, insulting, incredibly poorly thought out "filter." As anyone in there who's been paying attention knows, it's broken, it doesn't work, it constantly blocks posts with NO objectionable content while letting actual profanities and spam through with ease.
Kill it; kill it with fire, or make whoever wrote it up in 10 minutes of their "spare time" take it down. It's insulting to the community, to the forum, and to the programmers. We're not at the Beeb anymore; most adult forums allow at least a little bit of salty language these days, but if that's a major pearl clutcher in there, fine, then add THOSE WORDS to the filter. Having it block completely legit posts for the dozens of innocent words which it tends to get stuck on is just...

disappearing post
Often when i start a new thread, i write it, then click post message and the thing just disappears and does not post.
Why is that? What's happening?
Is there a time limit?
Should i have clicked save first?
why is any of that necessary. It wastes time and causes unnecessary frustration.
NOte that it doesn't always do it. This post for instance did not disappear but it happens often enough to me.

3 Weddings and No Funeral - thanks to PMs.
It's sad that TT has been run down since I joined first in 1999. I've met all my best travelling buddies on this site, done great trips with folks, and been to 3 of their weddings in England, USA, and Taiwan!
Now sadly, that seems to be all over...
How has the Thorn Tree Forum ended up like this?
I'll continue to monitor Lonely Planet, but it's sad to see a slow death of a once booming community.
A real "Lonely Planet" in the making!
