For two days now I have been unable to log into the site if I am browsing using Firefox.
I can access lonelyplanet just fine. I can get onto the Thorn Tree just fine. But if I try and login it always times out (it also appears to think that it's trying to log in to Facebook).
No other websites (I use upwards of 30 a day) are affected.
I can log in via IE but IE is horribly slow in terms of changing pages etc so I'd rather use Firefox.

Hi,
A question if you will. Does LP have any intentions or instructions to absorb bbc message board technology and also standardise user iD's to match the rest of the BBC?
Please tell me no on both counts...

Anybody noticed how crap the new London LP is!! All the maps have been moved from being all together in a nice neat section in the back (printed in multicolour on high grade gloss paper), to being lost amongst all the chapters and printed in a duo-tone colour format on proper thin paper (a blatant cost saving exercise). I’ve been using LP London for many years now and found the new one totally unusable. The maps were un-readable and really hard to find and the I found that the new layout was totally illogical. LP – If you reading this – Why change the formats of your books when they’ve been working fine for decades??!! Don’t fix something that aint broke, as the old saying goes. It’s not a surprise though, as soon as the BBC get there mitts on the company then the usual messing happens. Change for change sake I think. I’m sure Tony Wheeler spent many years tweaking the layout to make ... more »

When I click on my profile why does the little sumary box list "Country Ethiopia". When I click on the full profile it states (correctly) that I'm from the UK.
I don't particularly mind being Ethiopian but was wondering how it came about, is it because I post fairly regularly on the Ethiopia branch?

Is there any news regarding when we'll get the advanced search back? I'm becoming increasingly frurstrated at not being able to find things. The basic one is nowhere near adequate. This is the sort of website that really needs a good search function.
I appreciate it must be as frustrating for you as for us....but have you any info on progress?

How do we know we've been either accepted or rejected to the blogsherpa program?
Under my travel blog, I used to see "your application is pending" and today I didn't see the message anymore.
No email or information whatsoever though.
Does anyone know what that mean?
Thanks

Hey Thorn Tree,
I posted a long reply on the Long Haul branch- or was trying to, anyway, and when I hit 'post message' it told me that there was an error and that I needed to input a title (but it was a reply, so it's not supposed to do that, right?). Because of that, I lost the whole message. Well, apparently, now your site saves messages as you go so I thought, well, it should be saved. So I went back to the thread, then back into compose, and there was no link saying that I could retrieve the message that was saved. So how do I get it back???? Do you have it on your servers, or something, perhaps?
Any help would be appreciated!

I have just come accross this article from 13 October 2009, where the LP's CEO is being paraphrased:
'Goldberg says he expects digital to continue growing its share of total revenues, particularly on the U.S. side, through a mixture of iPhone apps and other initiatives. It now has 600 guides now on the Amazon Kindle store and *plans to monetise its 700,000 members of the Thorn Tree travel forum*' (http://paidcontent.org/article/419-lonely-planet-picks-u.s.-chief-as-digital-sales-reach-20-million/)
I was curious to hear what do the old-time posters at TT think about 'being monetized'?

Question for regulars and semi-regulars...how do you normally browse the branch here?...by recently posted or recently replied?...
The default mode of the old TT3 was recently posted so I just stuck with that and read back 3 or 4 days posts at a time every second day or so...
So how do you guys read here and what do you think the 'pros and cons' are?

Hey, I was wondering if it is possible to change your username? I know you can change your password but I don't like my username. It's just a random string of letters and numbers. Thanks in advance.

It would be very useful to access directly to trip reports written by travellers on the TT forum on a specific country. Is it possible to do that?
Thanks

The FAQs for various countries and regions are meant to be there to stop people from asking the same old questions over and over again but the problem is a lot of them are very out of date (several years old). Some contain links that don't work, visa information that is totally out of date, posts that shouldn't be there at all (i.e. those that don't give information) and totally out of date prices. This doesn't encourage people to use the FAQs to get the information they are looking for and just makes you fustrated after going through the initial posts (which are the most out of date).
Perhaps experts in each area/regular users could be nominated to go through them and delete all the out of date info (with a voucher or something as an incentive?)
