Question for regulars and semi-regulars...how do you normally browse the branch here?...by recently posted or recently replied?...
The default mode of the old TT3 was recently posted so I just stuck with that and read back 3 or 4 days posts at a time every second day or so...
So how do you guys read here and what do you think the 'pros and cons' are?

It would be very useful to access directly to trip reports written by travellers on the TT forum on a specific country. Is it possible to do that?
Thanks

The FAQs for various countries and regions are meant to be there to stop people from asking the same old questions over and over again but the problem is a lot of them are very out of date (several years old). Some contain links that don't work, visa information that is totally out of date, posts that shouldn't be there at all (i.e. those that don't give information) and totally out of date prices. This doesn't encourage people to use the FAQs to get the information they are looking for and just makes you fustrated after going through the initial posts (which are the most out of date).
Perhaps experts in each area/regular users could be nominated to go through them and delete all the out of date info (with a voucher or something as an incentive?)

Is there any news regarding when we'll get the advanced search back? I'm becoming increasingly frurstrated at not being able to find things. The basic one is nowhere near adequate. This is the sort of website that really needs a good search function.
I appreciate it must be as frustrating for you as for us....but have you any info on progress?

I have just come accross this article from 13 October 2009, where the LP's CEO is being paraphrased:
'Goldberg says he expects digital to continue growing its share of total revenues, particularly on the U.S. side, through a mixture of iPhone apps and other initiatives. It now has 600 guides now on the Amazon Kindle store and *plans to monetise its 700,000 members of the Thorn Tree travel forum*' (http://paidcontent.org/article/419-lonely-planet-picks-u.s.-chief-as-digital-sales-reach-20-million/)
I was curious to hear what do the old-time posters at TT think about 'being monetized'?

Hello,
I had a very bad experience with the tour ageny Abu Asan alternative tours in Jerusalem. The agency is recommended by the Israel and the Palestine territories guidebook in the page 410.
I wanted to do my myseld the dead sea tour of the agency that normally costs 190 shekels ( divide by four for USD) as the agency did not gather enought people to do the tour. The owner of the agency Mr. Hassan was absolutey not clear about the final price of the tour as he said to me by phone the price was 190 shekels. Furthermore I only had a driver to accompany me and no tour guide whatsoever.
At tht time of paying Abu Assan argued that he needed 5 persons to fill the van and charged me 190x 5 !!!! 760 shekels. Firts of all maybe a misunderstading can be argued on this case however if for thîs price the tourists get a GUIDE and not just a driver in the package, I do not see why I...

It seems crazy to me but I can not find a way to search only within one country (other then providing the country name in my seach list but this is far from perfect). It is very inefficient to not have this feature.
Does anyone know a way to do this?
thanks

Hi, quite often when clicking "Post message", the post doesn't get posted. The words (in the little box) disappear and you have to then go back, click on 'reply to thread' and redo the thing. This also happens when editing as well.
Not all the time mind, but enough that it's annoying. Anyone else had this problem?
Hello!
I've been a member of Thorntree for a while now and no matter how many times I edit my profile, it keeps saying that I'm from Bulgaria. When I go to edit my profile, it says that I'm from Canada (which is where I'm from) but when you click on my name in the threads, it shows up as Bulgaria. Is there anywhere of changing this?
Thanks

Wasn't sure how to reply back to the Community Annoucement posted by VenessaP, so I thought I might post this.
Basically, the sign-in is not working for me at all using Firefox 3.5.5. It just sits there for ages not doing much. I note that our internet policy blocks certain sites like Facebook and this may be the issue.
However, I have been able to sign-in using IE7 using the same proxy server here at work. My preferred browser is Firefox, so would appreciate if the issue can be resolved shortly.
Cheers

Hey TT,
Today I got like 17 emails from a thread that I hadn't subscribed to, but, the weird thing is, the subject said that it was a thread that I had subscribed to. :| The text in the emails were from a different thread but from the same branch and some of the links linked to that thread, while others linked to the titled (subjectl) thread. The thread that was sent to me but that I hadn't subscribed to is called, "how do I get my stuff back?" The thread that I was actually subscribed to, with one link to it in the email, but recieved over a dozen notifications for, was the sticky thread at the top of the Long Haul branch: "The Long Haul - Living & Working Abroad" Obviously, both are in the Long Haul branch.
Hopefully this isn't too confusing. Thanks for fixing the problem :)
Steph
