Introducing The North & East
This region includes the independently minded Fryslân, which used to incorporate regions of the Netherlands, northern Germany and Denmark until it became part of the united Netherlands. Although the Frisian language is similar to Dutch, pronunciation is entirely different. Apparently it’s the closest language to English, although English speakers won’t understand it. As Frisians like to say, ‘As milk is to cheese, are English and Frise.’
