Take One
Cramped and narrow from the outside, this 1930s’ tavern has well over 100 beers from the most obscure parts of the Benelux. It’s run by a husband-and-wife team who help you select the beer most appropriate to your taste. The Bink Blonde is sweet, tangy and very good.

North End
This superb English-style pub is full of warmth, cosy nooks and character. It comes complete with its very own 'bourbon alley' (not very English, granted, but a welcome selection of booze all the same) and patented beer strippenkaart (strip card).

De Mug
Don’t be fooled by the Heineken signs; the beer list is long and boasts many rare Trappist varieties. Also try the Mug Bitter, heavy on the hops. The menu goes well with the brews: hearty seafood and meat plus more simple fare for snacking.

Willemsbrug
This old-time, maritime-themed pub attracts salty sea dogs from the island. However, it’s all bark and no bite. There’s an underlying genial charm that finds full throat when impromptu singing spreads like a fire on the poop deck.

Café Ledig Erf
This classy pub overlooks a confluence of canals (and other cafes) at the southern tip of town. The terrace vies with the beer list in offering the most joy. The autumn bock beer fest is a winner.
