Lonely Planet review for Pata Negra
Tapas and only tapas. The alluringly tiled exterior is matched by a vibrant crowd inside, especially on weekends, downing sangria by the jug and all those small plates (the garlic-fried shrimps and grilled sardines are standouts). Margaritas are made with freshly squeezed lime juice, as they should be. Arrive before 6.30pm or reserve.

Pata Negra - Crowdy, Noisy, Garlicky Fun!
dan_fennessy recommends this,
A loud, bustling and authentic feeling tapas bar/restaurant in Utrechtsestraat, one of the cooler 'straats' in the Dam. Tasty tapas and rustic decor combine with the energetic, noisy crowds to create a fun atmosphere for dinner or, even better, drinks and tapas.
The tapas are typically Spanish (i.e. small and garlicky), try the Manchego cheese and dates with bacon and almonds followed by the Crema Catalana for dessert and a Cuarenta y Tres liqueur to finish. The hams, after which the restaurant is named, hang knowingly from the roof behind the bar. Service can be slow when it gets busy, which is normally the case. Book ahead to guarantee a spot and avoid the wait, especially on Friday nights, it's well worth it!Good for: atmosphere, food, Budget Travellers, Groups
