Owners Hector and Pedro consistently set the standard among Amsterdam’s handful of Mexican restaurants. If you’re looking for wonderfully grilled bistek (beefsteak), crispy chicken rolls and fruity margaritas, you’re definitely in the right place. A few shots from the 60-plus tequila list, and you’ll be ready for a hat dance.

    Los Pilones is a hidden gem that I'm glad I discovered. The quality of the food is excellent and their selection of tequilas is unmatched in Amsterdam.

    As someone who has lived 300km from the Mexican border for 20 years and has an appreciation for quality authentic Sonoran style food, I can say that Los Pilones is the real deal !

    This is not Tex-Mex, If you're expecting perfect yellow-colored U-shaped tortilla shells with refried beans and lettuce, you are going to be disappointed.. This is real Mexican food..

    Their menu is limited in the number of items it offers, but all the favorites are there, Tacos, Burritos, Enchiladas, exactly what you would expect in a mexican resaturant.

    Their 'on the house' salsas are not bad either, good flavor, albeit a little light on the chīllis. The food is generally spiced very conservatively and their tabletop salsas amount to nothing more than a typical Cholula style sauce. If they offered some more adventurous choices in their salsa assortment, they could take their menu to the next level ..

    I counted several dozen tequila bottles on their wall, and their website claims they have over a 100. that's pretty impressive in a town where most bast stock: quervo, quervo especial and quervo 1800..

    Overall I'd rate this place 8 out of 10, the food is excellent, the decor and location is great, the margaritas are authentic, and the price is reasonable..

    Mexican favourites and margaritas you'll never forget...

    The Los Pilones concept really is amazing. Dine amongst a bright and bustling atmosphere, surrounded by hand-painted, artistic murals covering the walls and rustic wooden furniture which creates a warm and cozy setting. The simple yet delicious Mexican menu offers all the traditional favourites, along with home-made pickled cactus sides, salsas and even a Los Pilones variety of tequila, which is actually distilled in Mexico! Before my first visit, I had heard about the restaurant's famous margaritas and was blown away (literally!) by the pitchers of strawberry margaritas, made fresh at the bar with their own brand of tequila. After returning many times over the years, this is definitely a recommendation and experience you'll never forget!
