Our favourite hotel in this price range, it has just eight rooms in a house dating back to 1652. Its rooms, named for Dutch painters, are furnished with simplicity, but all have canal views. There's a mix of Delft-blue tiles and early-20th-century furniture and – get this – a tiny lift. Staff dispense friendly advice. Reserve well in advance. No credit cards accepted.
