Lonely Planet review
Within the Amsterdam American Hotel , this art nouveau monument, opened in 1902, was a grand café (bar) before the concept even existed. Its huge stained-glass windows overlook Leidseplein; there's a lovely, library-like reading table and a great terrace. High teas (Monday to Saturday) and jazz brunches (Sunday) are especially atmospheric – book ahead.
