Other activities in Amsterdam

  1. Holland Rent-a-Bike

Many visitors rent a bike towards the end of their stay and wish they had done so sooner. We can’t recommend it highly enough. Rental companies can be found all over town; all require ID plus a cash deposit or credit-card imprint. Most have a variety of bicycles, starting with single-speed models with coaster brakes; handbrakes and gears cost a little more. Handy to Centraal Station is Holland Rent-a-Bike in the Beurs van Berlage. Bike City puts no advertising on its bikes, so you can pretend you’re a local.

  2. Mee in Mokum

The cheapest and often the most intriguing tours, these are led by senior-citizen volunteers who often have personal recollections to add. The tours can be a bit hit or miss, depending on the guide, but are well worth their value. They depart from the cafe in the AmsterdamsHistorischMuseum.

    Yellow Bike Tours

Choose from two- and three-hour city tours (per person €18.50 to €21.50) or a four-hour countryside tour (€27.50) through the pretty Waterland district north of central Amsterdam. Tours are less youth-oriented than Mike’s, and limited to 15 participants. Reservations recommended.

Traditional city cycling tours cover the major sights, but it also offers the fun Culinaire Snack Tours (per person €32.50, three hours, needs a minimum of four people to run), which include trying Dutch bitterballen (mini croquettes with meat), cheeses and jenever.
