Hello LP posters,
I will be planning a trip to the Gambia from Senegal in a week, crossing from the Amdallai/Karang border. I hold a nationality that requires a visa, but in addition to that I require a pre-approval/police authorisation - which is impossible for me to do from here in Senegal (I do not have a contact in the Gambia). Without this document, I cannot apply for a visa and the Gambian embassy have said they cannot help.
I have a friend who has told me that he has travelled with…
Since things changes quickly I opened a new topic:
- Gambia/Senegal seems to be open for walking NOT for cars.
My questions - I am happy for anyone answering any of the questions:
1. is the border open 24hours?
2. is it possible to find caps on both sides to travel onwards to dakar and to the ferry (even at night?)?
3. how long does it take to cross the border?
4. Is the ferry going on Sundays?
5. what time is the last ferry from Banjul to Barra on Sundays
6. how much time do I need to calculate…
Is there any news on the border closure between Senegal and Gambia?
Is it just to vehicles that it's closed? Ie. would arriving at the border solo and walking across be ok? Is it all borders that are closed?
I'm in Senegal now and I need to fly out of Gambia in two weeks time!
I will be coming to Gambia for the 1st time in May. Good internet connectivity is very important to me. From my research so far, the connection quality of connection in Gambia seems questionable. Even in hotels and guest houses with free internet. I am not sure what area near Banjul I will be in and I will probably be moving around. So the 1st question is, what is the best internet provider for me?
My 2nd question is, how best to use that provider? I use my laptop for internet and phone…
I've googled for about an hour trying to find out if I need a visa for Gambia. I've found everything from - no/free visa for 90 days - to 200 USD for a 5 year visa. Can someone please clarify the current situation for me?
Thanks so much!
A friend and I will go to Gambia for a one week holiday in April and - as usual when travelling together - we'll share a hotel room in order to save money on accomodation.
But since it's known that Gambia like many African countries is very restrictive on gays we are wondering if sharing a room (not a bed!) could be considered to be "homosexual behaviour" and may cause some trouble - if not more.
In fact we are NOT gay and we don't pretend to be but I think it's worth the question.
Just did a trip to The Gambia. I am a US Passport holder. Crossed the Senegal/Gambia border by land at the Karang/Amdallai border (the barra ferry route) on January 15, 2016.
I was required to buy a single entry visa (only option) for 3000 dalasi ($75 USD). The old fee prior to 12/25/2015 was 1000 dalasi ($25 USD). Immigration showed me the official visa increase, I took a picture of it. Pleaded for a 48 hour transit visa but they would not grant it to me. Said that this border crossing…
