Lonely Planet review

This friendly Australian-owned guesthouse is a great place to dip your toes into village life without having to rough it. The nightly price includes a visit to the family farm, a foraging excursion in the forest and (for a donation direct to the local school) a children’s dance performance. Day tours around the region cost 800B to 900B per person (minimum two) or you can hire a bicycle (120B per day) or motorcycle (500B per day) and see things for yourself. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed, especially the 1500B Thai-style ‘chalet’, and the mostly organic menu (70B to 295B) covers Thai tastes and your favourites from home. If you want, you can join Noi in the kitchen for a cooking lesson. Day guests are welcome.

Description

'Thai House Isaant' is located near Mukdahan in North East Thailand (Isaan). There is so much of "Unseen Thailand" here to see. We are also only 45 minutes from the new "Friendship Bridge" Bringing Lao so close and convenient. We offer a unique holiday adventure. The Resort is nestled in a 'Phu Thai Village' and the villagers just love visitors to there part of the world.

We are a home stay/guesthouse . The main home is styled after an original Galae Ban home (timber country palace). Currently there are 3 deluxe bungalows and 1 Apartment Although the house is very Thai the facilities are western. We offer bungalows with airconditioning, Satellite TV, DVD, bar fridge and western toilets. The gardens are just beautiful and the animals endless. Ducks, Peacocks, Pheasants, Burmese Chickens and even our very own lazy St Bernard and Darwin, our pet Monkey. He is an endless source of fun.

Rates start at 700 bht per night and range up to 1500 bht for the Family Villa.

The Farm
We also have a working Farm located in the Forest. Visit with us and see all the Animals and how we retain a balance with nature and farming.

Environment policy
"Thai House-Isaan" is environmentally friendly. We use only organically grown vegetables, herbs and rice. Most herbs are from our gardens here and create wonderful landscape. Lemon grass, basil, chillies etc., look wonderful in the garden. Almost all produce is purchased from our village and we use village Aunties and Uncles to help us run the business and build our additions. This creates employment here. Water for the pool is run off from the roofs and then treated for purity. Drinking water is the same. We encourage the use of Bidets in the villas to limit the use of waste. We also recycle 100% of our waste. In fact, we have a local truck come to take away rubbish for recycling and they pay us for it. This money goes to our cleaners to encourage there participation. We are careful to not leave an imprint on village life, but encourage the continuation of our very special 'Phu Thai' culture by exhibition dancing and selling locally made handicrafts.
