The Full Moon Party
Blog: Where is Rob? - 19 November 2009
The Full Moon Party was the reason I came back to Thailand again. Well I say the reason, I came back for loads of reasons mainly because I love this place but this was, I guess, the main excuse for coming back. It was unreal and 100% worth cutting our time down in Vietnam and Cambodia for. It was 3 nights worth of build up climaxing on this one night. Before the actual Full Moon Party there were [[ This is a content summary only. Visit my website for full links, other content, and more!

Back Home
Blog: Nomadic Matt's Travel Site - 16 November 2009
I’ve been back home for over a week now. After two months in Europe, I’ve come back to my friends, good drinks, Cheap Charlies, amazing food, great weather, and chaotic excitement. Yes, I’ve come back to Bangkok. Though born and raised in Boston, I consider Bangkok home now. When people ask me “where I live?” [...]

Mr. Daniel? The doctor will pose for cruelly inappropriate pictures now
Blog: I don't wash my hair - 15 November 2009
During my trip to Chiang Mai, I accompanied Elephant Program Director Daniel, who fell off a cliff and broke himself, to a handful of hospital visits, including one (my favorite, for sure!) where I got to see his cast removed and replaced. Most people have probably broken things but I never have (except for some really minor pinky finger fracture acquired while playing with my father, an injury the worst consequence of which was my dad's refusal to rough house with me ever again).

Thailand {Prologue}
Blog: Emerald Dreams Photography - 15 November 2009
Being perfectly honest with you, I do not have much memories of Thailand as I do with my other travels. When I went to Thailand it was to attend a retreat of some sorts. It was also my first international voyage as well foray into using a DSLR. I got my 30D a week prior [...]

Cambodia and Thailand Closing Borders?
Blog: Fish Egg Tree - 9 November 2009
Uhg. Thailand and Cambodia have had a variety of hot disputes over territory in the last decade, mostly around the issue of Preah Vihear and perceptions over Angkor Wat. Thailand of course has had its own internal turmoil, brought to a head in the 2006 coup and continuing protests since.

Thailand and SE Asia Not Quite the Bargain it Used to Be
Blog: Fish Egg Tree - 7 November 2009
I'm in Thailand now working on the AA Keyguide to Thailand, having just left Cambodia, where I finished up the Thomas Cook Travelers' Guide to Cambodia. Now that I'm on the road again, I've had to make use of credit cards on a regular basis to get cash. It has been a bit of a shock to see what fees are up to now. I was charged $50 on a single ATM cash advance--at that is just the bank fees back in the USA. So far, my overall credit card fees have averaged 7%.

Krabi, Thailand
Blog: Patrick and Katrina do the Globe - 6 November 2009
As our ferry from Phi Phi pulled up to Railay Beach, a longtail boat came out to meet us and bring us ashore. Or as far in as low tide would allow--we were left to wade in the rest of the way with our luggage on our backs.

Ko Phi Phi, Thailand
Blog: Patrick and Katrina do the Globe - 4 November 2009
Every other storefront on Kata's main drag advertised trips to Phi Phi Island--from all-inclusive getaways to simple ferry transfers. It's obviously THE destination. So we were delighted when Katrina's stepbrother and girlfriend sent us an email with the details of their wedding gift to us: a luxurious stay on Phi Phi Island with itinerary recommendations from their 2006 trip.

Phuket, Thailand
Blog: Patrick and Katrina do the Globe - 30 October 2009
Flying to Thailand was a much needed fresh start for us, leaving the stress and surgeons behind us with the dirt and relentless din of India. We wanted a calmer, more relaxed environment to fully recuperate, so once we landed in Bangkok we made a bee-line to the airport ticket sales desks to find the cheapest flight to a sandy spot on the ocean. Air Asia obliged with a 1:30 flight to Phuket. Perfect. We'd be on the beach before dark.

Bangkok with children – part 3
Blog: Oh, the places you'll go! - 27 October 2009
While Thewet is probably the most kid-friendly part of Bangkok, and Banglampu has the best family-friendly budget accommodation, we also had fun staying off Sukumvit Road and exploring the downtown attractions with Tash on our last visit to Bangkok in January 2009. We stayed at the Federal Hotel in Sukumvit Soi 11, which has been around forever [...]

Firespinning in Thailand
Blog: Canada's Adventure Couple - 20 October 2009
I had first witnessed fire spinning during our first trip to Thailand in 2000. I had never seen anything like it before and over the years I have watched it grow. For years I thought that it originated in Thailand, but in actual fact, it is from New Zealand. Known as Poi, it comes from the Maori People. It is a rhythmic dance done with weighted balls that are attached to the end of cord and spun around the body.

Bangkok with children – Part 2
Blog: Oh, the places you'll go! - 20 October 2009
Responding to a recent inquiry about kid-friendly places to stay in Bangkok made me realise I didn’t have a post on this site about Banglampu. This part of ‘old Bangkok’ on the arc of the Chao Phraya River is well known as a backpacker desination–Khao San Road is situated there–but it’s also a good budget [...]

Audio Slideshow: Phuket Vegetarian Festival
Blog: Coconut Radio - 18 October 2009
In honor of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival that starts today and runs till October 26th, I thought I'd post this audio slide show of the pictures I took when I went to the festival in 2007. My husband thinks my commentary sounds too serious and dramatic (he wasn't at the festival with me) so he made me think that maybe my pictures aren't saying the "thousand words" I thought they were. The festival is very, very dramatic - I'd say the most dramatic event I've ever been too. Don't watch this slide show if you faint at the sight of blood.
