Hern Tai Resort

Hotel De Kamonson
Despite the pretentious quasi-French name, this multi-storey hotel has clean rooms but zero character. Some rooms lack natural light, so look at a few before making a decision. Limited English (and even less French) is spoken.
Huen Kham Kong
The six cutesy bungalows here appear comfortable, come equipped with TV, fridge and air-con, and are looked after by some friendly folks.
Mae Loe Gyi
Four spacious bungalows in a quiet compound, each equipped with separate sleeping, TV and kitchen areas. Breakfast and the food served in the attached cafe-restaurant is vegetarian, and work on an adjacent garden was underway when we visited.
Mitaree Guesthouse & Garden House Resort
Located by the post office and owned by the same people who run Mitaree Hotel, it has a mish-mash of nicer rooms, the more expensive of which have hot water, air-con and cable TV.
Northwest Guest House
The rooms in this cosy wooden house are mattress-on-the-floor simple, but get natural light and are relatively spacious.
A villa with four homey-feeling yet simple rooms. Look for the sign that says 'Guest House & Restaurant'.
River Bank Guest House
Rooms in this attractive riverside house are decked out in hardwood and have lots of natural light. It's worth shelling out 200B more for the rooms on the upper floor as the cheaper rooms feel cramped and have comically small TVs...
Located next door to Riverhouse Hotel, and run by the same people, this place is mostly similar but lacks its sister's charm. Ask for a river view room as the town-side ones are the same price.
Road Side Guest House
Playing on a theme of cowboys and Indians, the six rooms at this new guesthouse are correspondingly rustic, but clean and comfortable. The owner, an experienced trekking guide, leads various tours of the area.
Salawin Guest House
The beds are hard and the towels are thin, but the graciousness extended by the lovely old couple who run this place make it worth it. Rooms are clean with large hot-water bathrooms, there’s internet and it’s very conveniently located.
