Floating Market and Kanchanaburi with Mr. Sangsri
Blog: Snaps and Flip Flops - 22 July 2011
We met Mr. Sangsri on our way to the Grand Palace (which was, incidentally, closed). We chatted a bit and discovered we can hire him for a day to take us to places outside Bangkok. Mr. Sangsri offered a fairly reasonable price so we decided to go with him.I've always wanted to go to the Floating Market and the Tiger Temple. Despite having visited Thailand several times, I've never been there before.

Niiiice Kitty, Kitty Kitty
Blog: Hole In The Donut - 19 March 2011

Red clothing aggravates the tigers so it is not allowed, and because you are visiting a Buddhist monastery, out of respect for the monks who operate [...]

Ghosts at the Bridge on the River Kwai
Blog: Hole In The Donut - 15 March 2011
Like most people who have seen the 1957 film, any mention of the famous Bridge on the River Kwai conjures up images of leech-ridden swamps; a relentless, searing sun; and sweat-drenched prisoners marching back to camp in formation while whistling the Colonel Bogey March. With my knowledge admittedly stemming solely from the movie, I decided [...]

It is most famous as being the home of the Bridge over the River Kwai. This was of course made famous by the film of the same name. There are many Allied cemeteries dotted around the town and outside, also some Chinese cemeteries.

It was another early start, but that was not really a problem as we were awake waiting for the ‘wake up call’ having had a real 'wake up call' at Dawn, a Cockrell crowing very loudly! The drive down to the Si Nakharin Dam was very picturesque, going through the Chalom Ratanasin National Park and the Si Nakharin National Park. Both roads were tarred and could be driven by car with no problem.
