Lonely Planet review for Akha Hill House
This outfit does one- to seven-day treks. They begin with a long-tail boat up the river, before trekking to and around their Akha Hill House about 23km from Chiang Rai, at a height of 1500m. A portion of the profits from the guest houses and their activities go into a local school. Inquiries can be made at Akha Hill House.

Ideal jungle retreat - I could stay forever!
black_angel_123 recommends this,
I arrived 1 week ago looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the cities, and I found it. Midst in the jungle, the rooms have stunning panoramic views of the jungle and sun rising over the misty mountains (well worth waking up at 5:45am for the sunrise!), and the nearby waterfall and hot springs are well worth a visit! The staff are very friendly and eager to learn or practice their English. The cheap rooms are a bargain - basic, but with private balconies overlooking the valley which more than make up for the lack of a TV! (pay more and a TV is available). The hotel has free internet and wifi which has worked consistently, and the food is reasonably priced, so no need to go into town. If you do want a day in Chiang rai, the pick up truck leaves at 9-9:30am and will bring you back at 4 - just ask Tao (the driver), whose English is very good. I've had the most amazing time here and feel more relaxed than I have in the last year! I wish I didn't have to leave!
