Lonely Planet review for Pantip Plaza

Situated near the night bazaar, this shiny shopping centre is a more legitimate version than its grey-market counterpart in Bangkok. Mainly licensed suppliers of electronic hardware, such as computers and cameras, fill the space without a single bootleg software vendor in sight.

There are five computer plazas in Chiang Mai and this is the most modern and convenient if you are a visitor in the Night Market area. Don't imagine it's even remotely the same as the PP in BBK, though. Two of it's floors are almost deserted with no tenants and therefore no customers (or is it the other way round?). There are a couple of dozen shops selling hardware and plenty of the usual pirate software vendors. Pick of the bunch are Good Speed Computers who have other branches in town and not only have fair prices but actually know what they are talking about. Computers aren't a bargain in Thailand unless you come from a tiny island in the Caribbean with 300% import duty.

    It's all about bootleg software.

I was amazed by the line "without a single bootleg software vendor in sight."
There are at least a half dozen software stores, each with the same deal of 150 baht per disc (about $5). Often they fit a ton of programs on a single disc.
