Lonely Planet review for Khun Churn

You might think that vegetarian means rustic, but Khun Churn has kept up with the times with its 21st-century minimalist dining space. The main attraction is the extensive daily buffet (80B) as well as à la carte fruit drinks, crispy rice with coconut dip or pomelo salad. It’s closed on the 16th of each month.

    AMAZING!

    jzachanowich recommends this,

After spending six months living in Chiangmai, I've found that this is one of the best restaurants in the city. They have moved locations recently, now on Nimmanheiman Soi 17, I believe.
The new location is larger and the decor is more beautiful than the last location.
The buffet is delicious and generous, as with most other things on the menu.
The veg. duck curry, with pineapple and grapes, is to die for. As well as the pomello salad.

No stomach churning at Khun Churn

    kataji recommends this,

Khun Churn is a restaurant, set in a 'soy' - sideroad - of Chiang Mai's Nimmanhaemin Rd, one of the hippest streets outside the city's wall. Upon entry, you immediately feel the calm and serene atmosphere: the grass has been cut spiral-shaped; there's a waterfall peacefully cascading on your right and the pebbled-path just asks for you to walk on it. There's a small cafe on your left and the restaurant itself is in the back.

We, me and two friends, sat ourselves down at one of the tables - nothing too chic - and chose our drinks. There are many yummy fruitshakes, smoothies and juices to pick from. The Berry Blast is a real contender! Since it was New Year's Eve, we decided to order a number of plates and then just mix-and-match to whatever we liked. The food is all vegetarian - hurrah - so don't come here if you're no fan of tofu and delicious veggies. The menu has been provided with pictures - that actually resembled the meals, which I wish I could say about more restaurants - so you can easily pick what you want.

We ordered 6 different dishes in the end - the pomelo salad, a red curry, stir-fried cashew-nuts and three unpronounceable Thai dishes - and thought we would at least have to wait a while for it all to come out. Were we in for a surprise that everything had been dished up within 10 minutes! Normally, in Europe, I would fine the "top" of the food to be warm [kept warm by a lamp] and the rest cold, but this was all warm and very delicious. The speed of service made us very happy, even more because the food itself was so good, healthy and vegetarian.

We had to pay 6 euro's each, for 6 big plates of food, 3 plates of rice, 3 smoothies and 3 desserts, so we left our celestic restaurant with our stomach AND our wallet full.

One last thing, make sure you enter the restaurant on the right side - it's a whole less spectacular looking if you come in from the back - like we did.

    Enjoy!
