Lonely Planet review for Jerusalem Falafel

You might yawn at the thought of yet another Middle Eastern restaurant in a backpacker ghetto but later you may start to sing praises of this exotic import. The restaurant is a lively place to assemble with friends and nosh on a meze platter of falafel, shashlik, hummus and tabouli. Yoghurt, halloumi and feta cheese are home-made here.

    Bad Service Small Portions

    alanwt does not recommend this,

This is the place to go if you want to feel not wanted. Rude staff and extremely small potions. There are much better places in Chiang Mai to eat.

    Don't go here!

    jbeaulac does not recommend this,

food was boring, order was wrong, and manager yelled at us when we politely asked for order to be corrected and she refused to do so. with so many excellent restaurants in chiangmai, don't go here! I should have checked out the reviews on trip advisor as it is not recommended. This restaurant needs to be removed from the list of recommended restaurants from the Lonely Planet!

Great food, but expensive in the end

    zoedee recommends this,

As the LP guide says, the food is incredible, but they don`t tell you that the meals being between 80-120 are in fact small, individual meze plates, that you need about 6+ of to create a full meal for two people. And some of their items go up to 200THB (e.g. lamb kofta) (A basic meze platter with just dips and bread is 500THB alone)

By the time we got the bill, one beer, one soda water, a meze platter plus haloumi and lamb kofta, we spent 990THB.

HAVING SAID THAT, the food was excellent. Couldn`t fault it, or the service. A gentleman who you could assume to be the owner, hovered the entire time making sure we had everything we needed and was delighted to seat us and gave us a hearty farewell.

I suppose just a warning to those who are a little budget conscious...

    Falafel's holy land!

    hannahpocock recommends this,

Anyone who has traveled in Thailand has probably noticed the proliferation of falafel shops in any highly touristed area. In the sea of Middle Eastern and pseudo Middle Eastern eateries, however, the food at Jerusalem Falafel stands out. The mezze are a tasty start, and the falafel sandwiches are hefty and delicious, served with wonderful sauces. If our taste buds had their way we would have dived in for more, but our stomachs were filled to bursting - a welcome change for the budget traveler used to stretching every baht as far as it will go. Middle Eastern music and decorations gave the place a colorful atmosphere, and the owner was equally authentic, if a bit on the sullen side. With her attitude the only drawback (maybe it was just a bad day), this place is worth coming back to for its mouthwatering, stomach-stuffing food - a must for any backpacker sick of the uninspiring traveler's fare that lines the streets in every direction. Search it out - Jerusalem Falafel is a food pilgrimage that's truly worthwhile!
