When Thai society types give their cooks a day off, they wander over to this airy café in the Emporium mall for ahǎan faràng (Western food) or regional Thai specialities. The dining room is not as in-your-face hip as much of the Sukhumvit scene, but in this part of town it’s pleasant to find a place where flavour takes a front seat.

    Kalapapruek, meaning magic tree in Thai, was my firm favorite for over the cast 8 years. All those wonderful things said about this place was all true, in the past, that was...My recent revisit after a long 3 years absence left me broken hearted. They offered the same good menu, only the quality of the food was not the same. You won't be able to tell unless you have tried them in the old glory days. Their desserts used to be so wonderful that, we had to be careful to leave enough room in our stomach for that, now the cake was bland, the wow factor was long gone. The service was another matter that experienced a serious decline, the staffs were absent minded, careless with the orders. My local Bangkok friend and I decided, we will never visit this place again, given the high price it charged (My friend was inviting me)

    My favourite dish there is green curry soup with roti. Not too spicy for non-Thais.
