Lonely Planet review for Le Banyan

Sukhumvit’s trendy diners demand change every six months: new menu, new décor, new chef, anything to chase away restaurant boredom. But for the monogamous eaters who value a stiff-lipped experience, this classy French restaurant proves its dinosaur wisdom with formal efficient service and traditional fare. A lush garden surrounds the charming house illuminated with candles and gleaming wine glasses. The house speciality is pressed duck, but the seared foie gras steals the show.

An absolute gem and my favourite special restaurant

I believe this is one of the oldest French restaurants in Asia? I adore it and it is where my partner takes me when we are back in Bangkok for a few days before we fly home. Its an absolute treat, romantic, wonderful food, location and service. Highly recommended!

    A romantic delight

    pacificamigo recommends this,

I was taken to this lovely old Thai house a couple of weeks ago by a business friend who lives in Bangkok. The decor and atmosphere is lovely and I took my girlfriend there last night to show her.

The restaurant is a little far down soi 8, but the lovely gardens are lit up tastefully, leading itno a lovely old wooden house. We were greeted at the door by a jovial French guy (owner?) and had a wonderful experience.

Nice large menus, good (if not massive) wine lists, and a meat-eaters delight. My girlfriend is vegetarian so she was not as thrilled. However, the rack of lamb was superb.

This place is great for a romantic evening; I'll be back next year for sure on my next trip to Thailand.
