Getting around
Sǎamláw (three-wheeled pedicabs) and shared túk-túk ply the main city roads (5B to 10B per person), but good luck hopping aboard as most see a foreigner and immediately switch into ‘charter’ mode. A túk-túk from the train station to any point in old Ayuthaya should cost around 40B; on the island itself figure no more than 20B per trip.
For touring the ruins, the most economical and ecological option is to rent a bicycle from one of the guesthouses (30B to 50B per day). Motorcycles (150B) are also available for rent. Elephant ‘taxis’ (500B) are also available for touring Wat Mahathat; inquire about a ride at the elephant kraal in town on Th Pa Thon.
