Lonely Planet review for China Inn

The organics movement meets Phuket cuisine at this turn-of-the-century shophouse. There's red curry with crab, a host of veggie options, homemade yoghurt and fruit smoothies with organic honey. There's also a gallery here with textiles, carvings and clothes from Myanmar and Laos.

Extensive Thai & eclectic Western cusines, Top-notch music

    nehasharma recommends this,

As we were strolling down the street in Old Town of Phuket, where history and tradition brims, I caught with my eye a restaurant at Thalang Road. Being right besides a nice historical spot caught our attention. We decided to have a lunch there.

As we entered, we saw a lovely red sofa there and were attracted by the beautiful Chinese artifacts, figurines, traditional lanterns on light fixtures, textiles and fabric but to our disappointment that place was not to sit. Instead we had to walk through this long shop-house to the backyard restaurant.

After taking our chairs, we ordered our drinks. The restaurant had a nice collection of wine, soft drinks, fresh juices and smoothies. The chilled orange smoothie was enough to kill the outside heat. The menu offers an extensive Thai as well as eclectic Western cusinies. We started with veg. noodle soup and chicken soup, which were quite thick and tasty. For our main course, we had a fish curry, noodles, spaghetti and some sea food dishes. Fish curry was really the grace of the meal. All dishes were simple and elegant. They gave lovely touches to the presentation such as a vivid flower that comes with the spanking fresh prawn-based spring rolls and dipping sauce.

Starting with soups till the main course, the meal is one delightful discovery. Though the service is a tad slow, the friendliness of the staff more than compensates for it. Adding a few more soups and some variety to the world food section could give more options. The salads couldn’t get any better and the soups are to die for!

Overall this atmospheric little eatery offers great food, top-notch music and - if you're lucky - some sensationally camp cabaret. Enjoy your dinner, sip some wine and then dance the night away.
