Lonely Planet review
Rising from the ruins of an Omani palace that once housed the sultan's religious counsellor, Mashariki is as regal as it is refined. Soaring proportions make each of the 18 rooms feel palatial, while the use of natural materials – copper, wood, stucco and limestone – keeps things cool and contemporary. Carved four-poster beds, expensive linen sheets, atmospheric lighting and silk-and-wool soft furnishings add a pampered feel. The coup de grâce is the rooftop terrace with royal views of the harbour.
Our independent authors have visited Mashariki Palace Hotel and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Zanzibar Town (Stone Town & Ng’ambo).
