Lonely Planet review for Safari Blue Menai Bay Dhow Tours

For something different, contact Safari Blue Menai Bay Dhow Tours, which organises day excursions on well-equipped dhows around Menai Bay. The excursions, which leave from Fumba, include a seafood and fruit lunch, plus snorkelling equipment, and time to relax on a sandbank. The dhows can also be privately chartered, for honeymoons or groups. Before booking, it's worth checking weather conditions, as some months - notably April/May and July/August - can get quite windy or rainy.

    Really superb trip

    sheskinbeg recommends this,

This trip is run by Eleanor, a British woman who started the business in 1996. She was there for our tour and was bringing some patients from the local Mental hospital on the trip.. The dhows were authentic and the sailing was exceptional. We saw the dolphins as promised and the snorkelling over the reefs was thoroughly enjoyable with good visibility, good coral & many fish. The other guests on our boat were friendly & interesting. Our seafood lunch and exotic fruit tasting was quite outstanding with lots of extra lobster & free beer. Lots of local people are employed and apparently some of the funds earned by Safari Blue are used to help local communities. We didn't go swimming in the mangrove swamp as there was a big snake in the water. However, seeing it was probably better than swimming. The poor mental hospital patients were really hungry & devoured lots of seafood. This trip was memorable & really great
