Jambiani is a long village on a stunning stretch of coastline. The village itself, a sunbaked and somnolent collection of thatch and coral-rag houses, is stretched out over more than a kilometre. The sea is an ethereal shade of turquoise and is usually dotted with ngalawa (outrigger canoes) moored just offshore. It’s quieter than Paje and Nungwi, and has a good selection of accommodation in all price ranges. In the village, there’s a post office and a shop selling a few basics. Eco + Culture also has a branch here, and offers village tours. Look for their signpost in the village centre, or book with their office in Stone Town.
