I just completed Pamir Highway tour today (April 20, 2016) and wanted to share my thoughts on what I encountered in homestays, before I forget it all.
(1) Kalai-Khumb: Home Stay of Sangakov Bahrom at the bridge, 93-410-7-50, 919-48-39-18. Western toilet and hot shower. Regular electricity. Very welcoming and will provide utensils and dishes on request. There is a hotel in town but very expensive.
(2) Khorog: Delhi Darbar, Partner Sant Bahadur Singh and Manager Gulgulcha, delhidarbarkhorog@…
I am an American citizen who is currently living in Urumqi (in the western part of China). I would like to take a two-week trip to Tajikistan this spring, flying directly to Dushanbe, but I'm not sure how to go about getting the visa. On the US embassy website it says that people coming from countries that have a Tajik embassy need to get a visa in advance. Unfortunately, China has a Tajik embassy; it is in Beijing, on the other side of the country. To go there and get a visa is simply not…
we are travelling on a long tour through the Stans and Iran so we need to bring a lot of cash for Iran and Uzbekistan. I was wondering:
- Are there any problems withdrawing cash in Tadjikistan (or Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan)? we have Visa cards if it matters.
- If we need to exchange money, are Euros acceptable or do we have to bring USD? are the rates dramatically better for either one?
- Is there anything that needs to be paid in USD? Like entry or exit taxes?
Of course any other hints…
Did anybody got a visa to Tajikistan from Paris lately? On the embassy website they seems to say that a LOI is required. Is it the case?
From other countries it doesn't seem to be the.
I arrived April 6 from Almaty (on the Somon Air flight that lands at 5:40 PM) and received a 30-day Visa on Arrival at Dushanbe Airport in less than 5 minutes. Officer made a copy of the passport. Luckily I had a passport photo but they would have granted visa without one - total cost $32.
Next day I went to the OVIR Office with my local contact. Officer filled-out the form for me including Takht-i-Sangin and Ajina Tepe areas and I paid 120 somoni ($15.50). Official cost is 20 somoni…
1.)anyone knows the opening hours of the TAJIK AIR office in Dushanbe?
(i want to buy a Dushanbe-Khorog flight)...or can it be bought ONLINE?
2.)anyone has done the GBAO permit in Dushanbe lately. I will need to do it.
Is it normally given on the same day?
3.) travel company?

I read that there was an earthquake in the Bartang area - SAREZ LAKE - which makes impossible access to the area.
My original plan was to come back to Dushanbe through Rushan from Karakul, which seems now impossible.
Has any of you got recent and reliable informations about the present situation?
Thanks a lot for your time

Has anybody been to Istaravshan, the Tajik little Bukara, according to LP?
Thank you so much for your time and advice.
My friend and I (Australian guy and Danish girl) are looking to drive the pamir highway/wakhan valley next week beginning and ending in Osh. Depending on how fast we can arrange visa + car and driver we have 12 days to do the trip. Anybody interested in joining? Preferably for the whole trip, but one way to khorog or back could also be possible!
Hi guys, our flights to Kyrgyzstan changed schedule, so we can get a full refund and buy new ones. We want to get to Khorog and quick as possible. Is it easier/quicker an overland trip Osh-Khorog or Dushanbe-Khorog?
