I was planning on visiting Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan next year but due to unforseen circumstances its looking like I will be moving the trip to this year. Exciting, but means having to cram in lots of research as I would be leaving for a few weeks (slowly getting through the Odyssey guide!). Overall idea is fly into dushanbe, side trip to fann mountains, then a slow journey along pamir highway via wakhan using public transport and hitch hiking (happy to pay). Can use the full 45 days of he…

Hello, I am an American woman (31) traveling to Dushanbe in July. My boyfriend is there for work, and we will be staying an entire month at least.

I read that the Pamir mountains are one of the best sites in Tajikistan, so I've been thinking about spending a few days traveling through them. From what I've read, the best way to see them is to rent a car with a driver for a few days.

My concerns are:

I don't really want to do the trip alone and my boyfriend is working 6 days a week. I would…

I've booked a vehicle to take me from Khorog on June 18 arriving in Osh on June 23, via the Wakhan Corridor. It's a fairly quick run, but it will include time for visiting the forts (what's left of them), a daylong yak safari and a hike towards Pik Lenin base came in Kyrgyzstan. Nights will be spent in Vichkut, Bulunukul, Alichur, Karakul and Sary-Mogol. Theoretically, the driver will speak some English.

Anyone interested in sharing the cost of the vehicle all/part of the way? I'll be in…

I plan on being in Tajikistan this August and am looking into spending a few days in the Fann mountains, currently I'm looking at this itinerary: http://caravanistan.com/tour/hiking-trip-around-iskanderkul-lake/
Which is much cheaper in a group of 4. Unfortunately I'm travelling by myself, so I thought I'd see if anyone here might be interested in joining me. I was thinking of doing this August 7th, but am somewhat flexible.

Hi, I am American and have applied twice for a student visa to study farsi at the International Centre of Persian Studies in Tehran, and the foreign ministry won't issue a visa. I have already been to Iran three times so I'm not sure what the issue is. This is moot, however, So I, hope to find someplace to study in Dushanbe.

Has anyone found any source? and share som

I'm trying to apply on this website: https://www.evisa.tj/index.evisa.html#/apply

But the drop down bar under Current Nationality refuses to load, has anyone else had this issue? Is there somewhere else I can apply for an evisa?

To make matters stranger, if I try to submit leaving that blank I get a number of errors telling me to fill in boxes that aren't even on the page (like marital status and gender).

Hi Guys,

We are a couple from Seychelles looking to self-drive the Pamir Highway starting roughly on the 24th July 2017 for around 1 week. After doing a bit of research I have realised that in order to self-drive from Kyrgyzstan (which is the only place you can hire a vehicle without a guide) you have to do a very long unnecessary "dead leg" of 650km in order to get the vehicle back to Osh as the Kyrgyz car rentals do not allow drop-offs in different cities/countries. This will also be an…

It appears that the Taliban has taken control of portions of Badakhstan, a district of Afghanistan sharing a border with the GBAO region of Tajikistan. Reports indicate that Russian troops have been seen in Khorog, and that Afghan soldiers are being treated in Ishkashim.

Here is a recent article with details: http://avim.org.tr/en/Bulten/TAJIKISTAN-FORCES-REPORTEDLY-SCRAMBLED-AS-CLASHES-INTENSIFY-ON-AFGHAN-BORDER

Will this have any impact on the ability of tourists to visit the GBAO, or their…

Hi everyone,

My names Zoe, I am 20 years old and I am travelling to Tajikistan for a month to work in lab! Basically, I have a few questions that I hope some people will help me answer as I'm very familiar with the country.

I am going for a month and staying with a host family, I was wondering how much money do you think I should bring (I live in the UK so work in £), I should have some meals covered with the host family and I shall not be living lavishly.

About the culture towards women and…

Hi, in looking at possibilities of traveling from Dushanbe to Osh via the Wakhan corridor, I've come across a 9 day tour starting early June for $860 per person for a group of 3. It includes 4x4, driver, meals, hotels. The price seems reasonable. There are already 2 of us interested in it.

The question is, if one does this trip by using share taxis from point to point would it be much cheaper? Along those lines, what would a reasonable price for car + driver for such a trip be? We would take…
