I'm planning a trip to Tajikistan & Kyrghyzstan in late April and I have 3 questions about visa & travel permits:
1) can I get a Tajik tourist V.O.A. (Visa On Arrival) at Dushanbe Airport?
2) can I get a Kyrghyz tourist V.O.A. (Visa on arrival) at Istara-Batken border?
3) do I need any special travel permit if I travel throught the northern way Dushanbe-Ayni-Istaravshan-Khujand-Osh?
I have an Italian passport.
Thanks in advance for your help
I'm planning a gap year backpacking route in 2015 across Central Asia and I have heard great things about the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan.
I would love to hire a car and drive from Khorog (or Dushanbe) to Murgab.
Does anyone have any experience of having done this? Is it easy to hire cars in Tajikistan (or Central Asia in general)? How much might this cost? Also, might there be problems given that I am 19?
I really appreciate any answers, thanks a lot!

Check out some of the stunning photos on their Facebook page...
Rumour has it that they are running the event again in September 2015!

We need to cross from Tajikistan into Uzbekistan to get to Samarkand by 23rd October. I believe that the crossing on the A377 from Panjakent to Samarkand is closed to foreigners, can anone confirm this please? If that's the case, what other border crossing options are there when travelling with your own vehicle?

The Roof of the World includes Tajikistan's Pamir Mountains located in Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Province (GBAO) as well as other significant mountain ranges of South-Central Asia: the Himalayas, Tien Shan, Karakorum, and Hindu Kush. After Dushanbe, I spent almost 3 weeks traveling around the Pamir region on the way back to Kyrgyzstan. There were huge numbers of tourists, not as many as in Uzbekistan which was…
