If you aren’t hiking from Fenchihu, take a Chiayi County Bus Company bus (NT189, two hours) from Chiayi. At the time of writing the schedule was 9.30am and 4.30pm.

You can also take the Alishan train to Chiaoliping (; Jiāolìpíng; NT174) and then call a hotel in Rueili to pick you up. If there are enough of you, the hotel probably won’t charge anything. Otherwise, the pick-up fee will be around NT300.
