We have a 7 hour layover in TPE. Is this enough to get into the centre of Taipei and see the National Palace Museum then get back to the airport? If so, which method of transport is best? This will be a Friday around 1-7pm. And if not, any suggestions for what to do with the time?
I was in Taiwan in March and this is my very personal review.
Taiwan on a big map - 5 weeks, that's a good time. I thought so. When I heard I can do a day trip from north to south and that the island is only 400 km long, I said then I can walk it! and changed my plans immediately. Five days Taipei, eight days Okinawa, then back to Taiwan for another three weeks.
The first five days in Taipei I didn't feel to have arrived. Nothing was really strange to me, more a ‘China light’ version.
This will be my second trip to Taiwan, and last time I travelled with one other person in October. This time I'm considering travelling solo in January. My questions:
. what's it like travelling Taiwan solo without knowing Chinese? I know there are few western travellers. Will I meet anyone to talk to?
. is January a busy time of year for travel? I'll leave before Chinese New Year. I don't want to have to pre-book everything.
. what kind of budget should I plan on having? I'd prefer…
I will be travelling to Taiwan from the 5th of May (arrival) until the 13th of May (departure). I was supposed to visit my then-girlfriend but now that we broke up, I have a blank paper for a week and I've been reading up a bit on Taiwan! Just wanted to show you guys my itinerary and what'd you think of it.
5th of May (10.25 arrival TPE): Sightseeing in Taipei (Elephant Mountain, Taipei 101, perhaps a trip to Jioufen)
6th of May: spend time in Taipei, trip to Jinguashi?
From there on…
I've been cycling around Asia and am now at the end of my line of destinations. I have accumulated gear that I don't need anymore and don't want to haul back to Canada with me. I'm looking for a way to sell my bike and camping gear but I'm not sure how to do this in Taiwan. Does any one know of any buy/sell networks for travellers looking to find gear abroad or any websites in Taiwan?
I have eighteen hours to kill in Taipei.
I'm a US citizen. I get in to Taoyuan at 5:10 and depart at 23:40.
I found this: http://eng.taiwan.net.tw/tour/index.htm . Looks cool, but only fills half my day. Hmmm...
There appear to be numerous buses to and from Taoyuan.
Seems like a lot of work to plan a whole itinerary for only an 18 hour trip. But it's up to me to make the trip memorable.
What would YOU do with eighteen hours in Taipei? Thanks in advance.
I'm wondering whether the online booking for a THSR ticket will already allow seat selection. I would want to specifically have a window seat for the journey I'm taking. Also, how will I get the actual ticket? Will I present something at the station to confirm my online booking?
In 10 days in Taiwan there has not been two hours consecutive without rain.
And why is the place so cold- its on the Tropic of Cancer- same as Miami or Rockhampton in QLD. Its only 15 degrees here at sea-level.
In Hualian there is a 24 hour coin Laundromat at 85 Guolian 4th Rd, Hualien City.
The 'Eight Dumplings' place in Guo Lian 3rd on corner of Guo Lian 2nd St is brilliant. Only eight varieties on offer, plus 4 kinds of dumpling soup. Dumpling soup at 50-70TW. Dumplings and 'spring rolls'…
