Hi.
I'll be in Taipei for 4 days in mid-September, I'm reading through guidebook, but having some kind of mental block, can't decide which neighborhood to stay in.
I'd like to be at least somewhat away from mainstream tourists (e.g. NOT something like Times Square in New York), and closer to art(galleries)/music/nightlife.
Also, you think I should squeeze in a day trip? If so, what would be top choice? I wouldn't mind going on a 2-3 hour nature hike, or maybe do hot-springs, or both.
Thanks!

How strict are hotels with allowing children to sleep in beds with an adult?
I am a single mum travelling with my two children (aged 6 and 7). When we travel in SE Asia, the three of us just share a bed. We have not had any problems with this, even if hotel policy says that children aged ?+ must use a separate bed.
Does anyone have any experience of of this in Taiwan. I appreciate all hotels are different, but are most ok with kids sharing a bed?
We are spending a week in Kaohsiung on an artsy…

Hi there,
I’m Taiwanese living in Taichung and I’m new to this forum. I can help anyone who need information about travelling and give you some recommendations. Im not tour guide but I will try my best to help you.
If you want to travel in Taiwan, I can be your driver to anywhere with less budget. I really want to meet new foreign friends because I want to improve my English and communication better. Then, if you want to learn some Mandarin I can teach you as well.
Anyway, anyone who needs help…

I will be visiting Taiwan in August for almost 2 weeks. I will be visiting Taipei and doing several days trips from there, Hualien/Taroko and Alishan/Sun Moon Lake. We are not real hikers so we won't be spending days hiking. If we have time, we would like to visit another place. What would be your recommendation between Kaohsiung, Tainan and Taichung? Just a little information about us - we love cities, architecture, weird cafes, abandoned places, interesting neighborhoods, alleys, etc…

My information is out of date, but I know that it used to be easy for visitors on Tourist visas to get temporary work as English teachers in Taiwan.

Is this still the case? Are there lots of opportunities to work for 1-2 months? Is there a big risk of trouble with authorities?

Any help appreciated. Thanks!

I have approximately 5 weeks free before I start my new job and wanted to get some travelling in before then. At the moment I'm thinking of doing 3 weeks Japan and 2 week Taiwan however the more I read up about Taiwan the more exciting and amazing it seems. I definitely don't want to rush either countries but I feel 5 weeks may be too much time to spend just in Taiwan?

What are peoples thoughts on this? Should I stick with my original plan or spend my whole 5 weeks in Taiwan?
