Wifi woes

I will be making a round trip with a few mates to Taiwan, Japan then Korea. Is it easy to find free wifi there on the go? It will be a kinda spontaneous trip and we plan on leaving the city to expore with GPS. I don't want to get SIM cards as I mainly communicate through twitter or skype anyway. Would it be safer to rent routers with unlimited wifi we can split. There are so many router rental sites to choose from in each country, anyone has good recommendations in terms of coverage/ price? Or…

I am considering spending a few days on Kinmen (Jinmen) island during my China trip in August.
Is it realistic to find budget accomodation just by walking-in in August? How busy does it get? Is it busier on weekends vs. weekdays?
From my trip to Taiwan 4 years ago I remember 1000 TWD as the standard price range for a budget double room. Most websites show prices starting from 1400-1500 TWD for Kinmen. Is it possible to find something cheaper on the spot?
Any recommendations for inexpensive places…

We are planning to travel to Taiwan (mainly Taipei and Hualien) in July. I'm pregnant (will be in my second trimester then), and we also have a toddler. It concerns us greatly that Taiwan has been identified to be at risk of Zika virus.

However, the Australian and US authorities have not issued any official travel warnings to Taiwan. Could you please point me to any reliable information on this matter?

Hi, having just spent 3 weeks in Taiwan I'd say spend more time in Kaohsuing than in Taipei. I found Taipei rather dull, always misty and hazy when its not raining and the food wasn't that great. By comparison, my time in Hualien and Kaohsuing was wonderful. I have blogged the experience and left a few photos that might help make some decisions. Oh and the sun shines in Kaohsuing :)

We have a 7 hour layover in TPE. Is this enough to get into the centre of Taipei and see the National Palace Museum then get back to the airport? If so, which method of transport is best? This will be a Friday around 1-7pm. And if not, any suggestions for what to do with the time?

Greeting from Taiwan! My name is Polly. Me and my boyfriend recently decided to relocated to an little island of Taiwan which is well-known as green turtles' hometown and called XiaoLiuqiu. We are running a little diving/ ocean studio which is not just focus on teaching how to dive but more like introducing ocean and environmental awareness to Taiwanese through photos we've taken and articles which are posted on our Facebook fan page because we think Taiwanese always keep distance and are…

I was in Taiwan in March and this is my very personal review.
Taiwan on a big map - 5 weeks, that's a good time. I thought so. When I heard I can do a day trip from north to south and that the island is only 400 km long, I said then I can walk it! and changed my plans immediately. Five days Taipei, eight days Okinawa, then back to Taiwan for another three weeks.
The first five days in Taipei I didn't feel to have arrived. Nothing was really strange to me, more a ‘China light’ version.

Back in…

Hi everyone.

This will be my second trip to Taiwan, and last time I travelled with one other person in October. This time I'm considering travelling solo in January. My questions:

. what's it like travelling Taiwan solo without knowing Chinese? I know there are few western travellers. Will I meet anyone to talk to?
. is January a busy time of year for travel? I'll leave before Chinese New Year. I don't want to have to pre-book everything.
. what kind of budget should I plan on having? I'd prefer…

Dear all,

I will be travelling to Taiwan from the 5th of May (arrival) until the 13th of May (departure). I was supposed to visit my then-girlfriend but now that we broke up, I have a blank paper for a week and I've been reading up a bit on Taiwan! Just wanted to show you guys my itinerary and what'd you think of it.

5th of May (10.25 arrival TPE): Sightseeing in Taipei (Elephant Mountain, Taipei 101, perhaps a trip to Jioufen)
6th of May: spend time in Taipei, trip to Jinguashi?

From there on…
