Other shopping in Taipei

  1. A

    Warner Village

The centrepiece of this mall is the 18-screen Warner Village cinema. The centre is busy all day (especially so on weekends). The food court is also popular.

    Sogo Department Store (Tianmu)

Tianmu's newest department store offers a wide and very swank range of places to shop (you can even exchange foreign for local currency at the information counter if you've brought your passport). Brands like Gucci and Anna Sui fill the top floors, while the basement caters to the moneyed and hungry with a Godiva Chocolate, Cold Stone Creamery and Momi & Toy's Creperie. A local branch of the Citysuper Supermarket is just the place to sate your afternoon take-away caviar and foie gras craving.

    Sogo Department Store (Dinghao)

Two branches of this department store anchor Taiwan's most famous shopping street in the Dinghao District (頂好商圈; Dǐnghǎo Shāngjuān). Zhongxiao E Rd is complete with shops both big and small, restaurants, cafes and nightspots.

  5. Shipai

Where people in Tianmu go for night-market food when they can't stand the crowds at the Shilin Market. It's a good place to hit after soaking at Beitou Hot Springs, and the chicken soup at Tai-G will cure what ails ya.

    Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store

This is a ritzy shopping centre not far from Warner Village.

  7. Shilin

If you can eat it, wear it or give it a name and bring it home with you (stalls selling puppies are big here, though we question the ethics of a spur-of-the-moment puppy purchase), you'll find it here. If you're squeamish about crowds, stick to the edges!

  8. Shida

If Shilin is king, then Shida is queen. It's almost as crowded as Shilin; you'll be met with a mind-boggling array of stuff to eat here as well as some very cool shops. Check out the stall run by a lady known as Fruit Auntie (shuǐguǒ āyí), on Longquan Rd just a block down from Hoping Rd. Her freshly cut fruit must be tasted to be believed.

  9. Raohe

Taipei's oldest and definitely one of the best; check out the sautéed-crab vendor at the eastern end of the street for a real treat.

  12. Jingmei

Though a bit on the dark and grotty side, there's something about the realism of this night market on the southern end of the city that we respect. The market is also a good place to shop for cheap T-shirts.

    Dayeh Takashimaya

Braving competition from nearby (and newer) Tianmu Sogo, Takashimaya is still the grand dame of Tianmu's department store scene. Just between us, its food court is still tops!

    Breeze Center

Nine floors above ground and three below, the Breeze Center houses worldwide brands including Ralph Lauren, Coach, Marc Jacobs, Omega and Prada…and that's just on the ground floor. The top floors feature the Ambassador cinemas.
