Lonely Planet review for Celestial Restaurant
Lovers of Beijing-style cooking have been coming to this restaurant for generations. In addition to Peking duck (expensive but meant for sharing), try the elegant, comforting 'green beans (actually peas) with shredded chicken'.

Celestial it is NOT
nancydel does not recommend this,
This place is terrible. We pre-ordered a Peking Duck 2 styles for two (1050$NT). The duck was large. It was more than enough for two but the waiter worked very hard on us to order more food. We asked for suggestions. He suggested that we order the "famous" Green Beans with chicken (330$NT for a small order of ~ a cup). Ok.. we will bite. We also ordered 1 order of pan fried dumplings (150$NT).
The duck meat was dry and cut the wrong way. The skin was very nice and crispy. The pancake was doughy and under cooked. The soup consists of pickled vegetables, noodles and duck bones. It had a strong pickled vegetable taste but very little duck taste. I love pickled vegetables but this was too much for me. One has to wonder if they just dropped the duck bones in the broth before they brought the soup to the table instead of hours of simmering?
The "famous" chicken dish was slimy, oily, and tasteless. $ US 10 for a less than a cup of chicken with green peas, what a rip off!
Dumpling was mushy (may be under cooked) with a strange after taste.
Finally, the bill came they wanted 2750 $NT. They can't even add! You have to stop recommending them. It was the worst Chinese food I had ever except the one I had in a (not to be named) company cafeteria. Recommend the Silks the Palace Museum instead.
