Lonely Planet review
This used to be the Ritz, and it's still very ritzy indeed. An Art Deco theme spreads throughout the hotel and melds well with the crisp design of the rooms. Luxury touches like bath salts, metal iceboxes, a pillow menu, and 24hr service are par for the course here.
The Landis' attention to detail is remarkable: even the drain grating outside the hotel is Deco designed. We're a little disappointed, however, that some beautiful touches don't extend to every room. Gorgeous green Deco-styled doors, for example, are only found adorning the outside of deluxe rooms and above. There is a definite sliding scale of sumptuousness in the hotel, though all rooms are a good size and have plasma TVs, DVDs and cool mini-bars. The hotel features some of the best restaurants in town, including Paris 1930, tops for nouvelle cuisine and service. Children under 12 are not allowed in and a dress code applies across the board. The rooftop Jacuzzi takes in views of Yangmingshan National Park. Some north-facing rooms on the higher floors share this view.
