Lonely Planet review
What this place could be if the rooms had the same kitschy Chinese palace design as the lobby and restaurants. But alas, while they are large for the price, they feature (if we can use that word) bare walls, cheap fixtures, carpeting, and newly refurbished bathrooms.
The Golden is well maintained, but you've got to wonder where they are getting replacements for that out-of-date decor. Don't bother asking the staff. Some do speak English, and they are friendly enough, but they look pretty harried with the demands of their Asian tour groups. Maybe it's best just to entertain yourself at the quaint little rooftop putting green or in the palace-style dim sum restaurant. Overall, don't expect the Golden to rock your boat, but do expect to be set up in reasonable comfort.
