Getting there & away
It’s not easy to get to Shitoushan. The best way at present is to take a bus from the Hsinchu Bus Company (03-596 2018), just to the left of the Hsinchu train station, heading to Xia Gong Guan (NT44, every 20 minutes). Forty minutes later get off at Jhudong () and transfer to a bus heading to Shitoushan (NT50). Ask the driver to let you off at Shitoushan Old Hiking Trail Arch (). From here it’s a 30-minute uphill walk through a dreamlike forest landscape to the parking lot. Note that there are few buses a day to Shitoushan, so call to check the schedule.
