Every morning or so, several manta rays (up to eight individuals) congregate around a lagoon site aptly named ‘La Ferme’ – there was a pearl farm here before – in order to be cleaned by wrasses that feed on parasites from the mantas’ wings. Snorkellers and divers can easily approach these majestic creatures in less than 8m of waters. One downside: as the sea floor is sandy, the water clarity is not exceptional – underwater photographers may be disappointed. Most lagoon tours stop here on their way to Motu Puarua. Blue Nui offers dives to this site on a regular basis. Note that it’s not a zoo and sightings can’t be guaranteed.
