Camping in French Polynesia

Hi All,

I recently got back from a month long budget camping trip around French Polynesia and wanted to share the somewhat hard to find info I have.

There is camping on most of the frequently visited islands, but not all.

The best-known camping on the Society Islands is probably Camping Nelson on Moorea. This is a decent campsite but as construction is ongoing there are no common areas, no kitchen areas and no electrical outlets to charge anything. It has a nice waterfront and pleasant but…

We are scheduled into Papeete at 5:00 and have until 1500(3:00PM) until boarding ship. Also, we arrive back to Papeete at 0800 and our departure flight is at 2355 (11:55pm). Any suggestions for activities and or day room hotels?

Hi all,
Travelling to French Polynesia for four weeks in October for my honeymoon and am hoping to surprise my fiancé with a half or full day of fishing. He's an avid fly fisher but I think would also be okay with deep-sea fishing as long as there's some sport in it. We'll be spending time on: Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, Huahine, Raiatea/Tahaa, Rangiroa, & Fakarava. Since we're going for a month and are already spending a small fortune, I was hoping someone would have suggestions for where the…

Magic Mountain on Moorea

hi fellow travelers, i was wondering if you could advise me on little information regarding Magic Mountain on Moorea. Does anyone know where exactly the access road / the parking for the way up is? I knew it was to the west of Opunohu bay and was was briefly trying to find it last year but eventually gave up. I plan to do it on my own, thus park my car there and hike all the way up. Any pointers? thanks a million, jirikoo

Flight Tahiti to Bora Bora

Hello, me and my boyfriend are planning a trip to Tahiti at the end of September 2016 and I would like to ask about the flights to Bora Bora or other islands. My friends who visited Bora Bora two years ago told me that it is possible to buy air tickets from Tahiti to Bora Bora at Papeete airport. That we do not have to buy them now. The reason why I am asking is obvious, the air tickets at Air Tahiti cost around 500 AUD, but my friends bought them at Airport Papeete for 200 AUD. I would like to…

New Years Eve in Papeete Tahiti

What can I expect for New Years Eve in Papeete? Any activities on the waterfront? Suggestions for a good French dinner that's not $300 per person like at the resorts?

Windstar Tahiti cruise

We are going on the 11 day Windstar Wind spirit cruise out of Tahiti next October. The dress code is elegant casual.... since we travelling in total for 6 months and packing light, I was wondering if anyone who has been on this cruise line could give me an ideal what kind of clothes for dinner/evening I should take along. Thx in advance.

Teamo Pension/Hostel - Warning

I stayed at the Teamo Hostel/Pension 3 times during my trip to Tahiti.
On the third occasion, the owner barged into my room, accused me (falsely) of turning on the air-conditioning and began to abuse my verbally.
I was extremely shocked and calmly explained that this was impossible, since guests do not have access to the remote controller for the air-con.
He then shouted 'Shut Up!' at me 6 times and shoved me in the chest with both hands, violently enough to make force me back two full paces.
It…

Accommodation

Dear fellow travellers,
My husband and me will spend one month in French Polynesia starting on the 20th of October. We will stay on Moorea, Raiatea, Maupiti, Bora Bora, Rangiroa, Fakarava and Tahiti. Does anyone have recommendations for affordable accommodation (B&B, guesthouses, hostels...) on these islands?

Scuba diving Huahine or Raiatea?

We're sailing the Society Islands for 10 days starting next week...we'll be visiting Bora Bora, Raiatea, Tahaa, and Huahine. We are very excited about diving during our trip and will definitely be diving in Bora Bora for sure, but does anyone know which of the other islands would be best for diving? I can't seem to get info on which islands are best.
thanks, any info would be very much appreciated. Best regards, Bill
