Renting a boat is a heavenly way to explore the lagoon, and if you can get a few of you together, this is a cheaper option than the organised tours available. René & Maguy (67 60 61), next to Snack La Bounty in Vaitape, rents outboard-powered boats for 9000 CFP for a half-day and 13, 000 CFP for the full day. The boats can seat up to four passengers, and snorkelling equipment is included. Village Pauline has kayaks for rent.
Miki Miki Jet Ski (67 76 44) rents jet skis for 15, 000 CFP for two hours. It's shortly before Le Maitai Polynesia if you're travelling from Vaitape.
Cars, scooters and bikes can be rented for two-, four-, eight- and 24-hour periods. The following offer pick-up from your hotel.

Fare Piti has scooters for hire (two/four hours 4000/4500 CFP). You will find bicycles for rent at Europcar (two/four/eight hours 1300/1500/1800 CFP) and Fare Piti (two/four/eight hours 900/1000/1300 CFP). Many of the larger hotels have bikes available for guests.
There's a Total petrol station north of Vaitape, just before Topdive Bora Bora.
