Location is the drawcard for Blue Heaven Island. This American-run pension on Motu Paahi features five wood-and-palm bungalows that are dotted around a huge coconut grove. It’s no-frills but clean, and run on solar power. The property opens onto a wonderfully turquoise hoa (shallow channel) speckled with healthy coral formations; it’s the most amazing snorkelling spot on Bora Bora. Despite its idyllic location, we can’t help feeling that this place is overpriced for what you get. There are no self-catering facilities, no air-con and no wi-fi access, and meals (full board is 6500 CFP per person) have been rated as ‘average’ by some guests. The owners don’t provide a free shuttle to the mainland, which means you’ll feel a bit captive. Bring insect repellent, as mosquitoes seem to enjoy the place. Cash only.

Our independent authors have visited Blue Heaven Island and selected this as one of our recommended accommodation in Bora Bora.
