So, I plan on leaving France for a bit this spring during my semester abroad's spring break to tour a bit of Kurdistan. Do you think it's possible for me to visit a bit of Syrian Kurdistan? In particular, I was thinking Al-Qamishli since it is not controlled by ISIS.
I know I shouldn't have too many problems, but I am a bit concerned about visiting their for a few reasons:
1) Can I get a bus from Erbil or Iraqi Kurdistan to Al-Qamishli? I'm not sure if there is a border crossing between Iraqi…
I've been to Syria a couple of times in the past. I know that there is a war going on in Syria but as I far as I know there are also relatively safe areas; areas free of fighting.
I am considering a visit to Syria in the next two or three weeks. I am planning to stay only in the center of Damascus and travel on roads by public transportation.
My questions are:
1) Is the border from Beirut open to EU passport holders?
2) Are Syrian visas available on this border?
3) Is the road to Damascus…
may be of interest to those planning on visiting Syria. Looks like Jordan - Damascus - Lebanon is a 'safe' run for now.
Interested if anyone has info on this. I will be in Amman this spring and saw that Syria Airlines is still conducting flights throughout the ME region and just began flights to Amman 3 days a week. We have a good friend in Damascus who has invited us to come, which we would love to do for a brief time.
A few questions:
How do you book these tickets? There appears to be no online book system setup to do so.
Do you feel it would safe enough to fly into DAM, take a taxi/bus to the…
I am planning a trip to Syria from France this year for a family occasion (despite the security situation). I was hoping to make use of my time there and travel around some beaches in the north of Latakia. Does anyone know of a hotel on the beach in that area?
We are also looking for a place to fish and trek in that area. I'd appreciate any advice :)
I hope that Lonelyplanet will not delete my post for the reason that i need help desperately!

US passport with no Syrian visa, just want to get through the country in order to get to Jordan to see the sand castle ruins. Is it possible to get through from turkey by bus without visa or with simple travel visa?
I just read on Lonely Planet own visa section of Sryia (below)
"If there is no Syrian representation in your country, you can obtain a visa on arrival at borders, airports or ports. Otherwise you MUST secure a visa in advance. The only official exception is for travellers entering Syria from Lebanon; if you have a valid Lebanese visa, a Syrian visa will be issued without problem on the border - for a charge. "
Were you a traveller entering Syria from Lebanon successfully? What is your…
I'll be in the area around December of 2013 and I want to get into a part of northern Syria controlled by the FSA. I'm having trouble finding information on the borders, whether they're controlled by loyalists or FSA, or which one I should pick. From what I've found there's one to the north-northwest, one to the north, and one to the north-northeast. But for some reason each source gives me a different name for these borders.
Which border crossings are open to me?
Based on news, there is Japanese tourist who cant resist go to Syria
