Crossed from KRG in Iraq over the Tigris river and spent 6 days in Northern Syria last week, in the YPG/YPJ/SDF controlled areas. Had a fixer to organise everything. Not cheap but obviously you don't want to skimp on these kind of things. Went to Qamishli, Amuda, Kobani, Tishrin, Hastakah, and Al Shaddadi.

A really interesting place, seeing the Kurdish people asserting their independence, the destruction and havoc from ISIS, and the complex Syrian and international factions all at play. Looking…

It's coming up to 8 years since she "disappeared". I don't think her family will ever stop thinking she may be found. Personally I think she is long dead.

The official policy is that Americans need to go in person to the Syrian Embassy in Washington DC (or now the one in Canada apparently) to apply for a visa. However, I have heard that oftentimes an American can "just get" a visa on arrival at the borders sometimes.

Does anyone know anything about doing this successfully? I am American, but do not live in the USA, so going to apply for a visa in Washington DC is not an option.

Thanks for your help!

I heard all commercial flights to Syria were cancelled, but I used some online flight trackers and it seems that some lesser known airlines (no big names like Air France or Emirates but rather small names like Syria Air, Iran Air, and 4J) seem to still have occasional flights to Damascus.

Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks for your help.

So, I plan on leaving France for a bit this spring during my semester abroad's spring break to tour a bit of Kurdistan. Do you think it's possible for me to visit a bit of Syrian Kurdistan? In particular, I was thinking Al-Qamishli since it is not controlled by ISIS.

I know I shouldn't have too many problems, but I am a bit concerned about visiting their for a few reasons:

1) Can I get a bus from Erbil or Iraqi Kurdistan to Al-Qamishli? I'm not sure if there is a border crossing between Iraqi…

I've been to Syria a couple of times in the past. I know that there is a war going on in Syria but as I far as I know there are also relatively safe areas; areas free of fighting.

I am considering a visit to Syria in the next two or three weeks. I am planning to stay only in the center of Damascus and travel on roads by public transportation.

My questions are:

1) Is the border from Beirut open to EU passport holders?
2) Are Syrian visas available on this border?
3) Is the road to Damascus…

may be of interest to those planning on visiting Syria. Looks like Jordan - Damascus - Lebanon is a 'safe' run for now.

Hi everyone,

Interested if anyone has info on this. I will be in Amman this spring and saw that Syria Airlines is still conducting flights throughout the ME region and just began flights to Amman 3 days a week. We have a good friend in Damascus who has invited us to come, which we would love to do for a brief time.

A few questions:

How do you book these tickets? There appears to be no online book system setup to do so.

Do you feel it would safe enough to fly into DAM, take a taxi/bus to the…
