Lonely Planet review for Adler's Swiss Chuchi

Adler's Swiss Chuchi may be touristy, but it remains one of the best places in the city to enjoy decent, simple versions of national specialities. Watch out for their fondue and the raclette (melted cheese bolstered with rib-lining additions like ham and potatoes). A great cockle-warming experience.

Surly service and 5 Franc tap water

    rss99 does not recommend this,

The food is mediocre - canned mushrooms is not my idea of quality. The service can be surly but the real surprise was charging 5 Francs for tap water. I've only lived in Zurich a couple of months but I have yet to encounter a charge for tap water. Of the Zurich restaurants I've tried, this one is at the bottom of my list.

First Day in Zurich and a great atmosphere

    tbensen recommends this,

Overall a fun experience with Fondue.. We were early so we had a table. It might be best to call ahead and make a reservation.

As Swiss as its own fondue

    mackemtraveller recommends this,

You'll be hard pushed to find a more typically Swiss restaurant. Curiously, you can find loads of places like this outside of Zurich but I can't think of another one inside the city - it's almost like a themed restaurant for Zurich urbanites, only the theme is real. The central location is perfect and within walking distance of almost anywhere in Zurich proper. Inside, the pine furniture and traditional decor just avoids "twee" and embraces "extremely pleasant." The service has that combination of down-to-earth friendliness and effortless efficiency exclusive to Switzerland.

The menu is as Swiss as a bell-wearing cow eating a bar of Toblerone on a mountain pasture, yodelling and carving wooden toys with a Swiss Army Knife while guarding the Pope. Cheese, potatoes, salads, bread, schnitzel and plenty of meats in a variety of sauces. The quality of the food seems high no matter how simple the dish. The best indicator of this quality is the number of Swiss businessmen you will see entertaining foreign clients here - simple Swiss fare but just feel that quality. You might find the meals ever so slightly on the pricey side, but I don't think you'll be disappointed by the place. Unspectacular, unpretentious, this is tasty, satisfying, gemuetlich dining.
