Lonely Planet review
A top choice, X-tra is a satisfying combo of exceptionally good value for money and style. Lumbering concrete block next to the post office it might be, but the building (1931) is a prized Bauhaus original joined at the hip to one of Zürich's busiest clubs with 20-somethings.
The reception alone screams I'm hip and trendy! The latest tracks play in the background, clocks tell the time elsewhere in the world, while guests chill out over a design mag on the red-and-black PVC sofas or check what band's playing at the rock-pop-hip-hop-trip-trap-happy X-tra club next door. Staff are super friendly. Sleeping quarters are not overly stunning - some rooms feel jaded - but everything is spotlessly clean, kids aged under 12 can sleep for free in their parents' room and the budget-conscious can opt to share a toilet and shower on the floor.
