Getting Around

Going with the Flow

For a cheap thrill, try crossing the Rhine on one of Basel's atmospheric old ferries. Attached to cables that span the river at four points between the city's major bridges, the old-fashioned motorless boats are deftly guided across by expert ferry operators who use a rudder to engage with the Rhine's strong currents. The boats (adult/child Sfr1.60/0.80, day passes not valid) run constantly from about 9am till dusk, departing from picturesque docks that are often adorned with sunflowers in summer.
