Fish brighten up the backside of this modern hotel and the sun-trap terrace of Café Spitz - a fine choice for fishy cuisine - dons the river-facing front, past which the whole of Basel mills by on fine days. Pastel-blue and white corridors with stainless steel doorframes and unusual polka-dotted ceilings create a crisp no-messing-here-mate air to the place.
