Boat

The Compagnie Générale de Navigation (CGN; 0848 811 848; www.cgn.ch) operates a steamer service from a jetty near Jardin Anglais to other villages on Lake Geneva. Many only sail from May to September, including those to Lausanne-Ouchy (adult 1st-/2nd-class single Sfr47.40/34.80, return Sfr73.60/54, 3½ hours). Passengers aged six to 16 pay 50% less and under sixes sail for nothing.

Those planning to stop off at other places en route should buy a Carte Journalière CGN (one-day CGN pass) costing Sfr74/55 in 1st/2nd class. Otherwise, the Swiss Boat Pass (Sfr35), available at any boat pier with a ticket office, yields a 50% discount on lake-steamer tickets for one year. Eurail and Swiss rail passes are also valid.
