Tour description provided by World Expeditions

The famous German poet, Johann Wolfgang Goethe was enamoured by the alpine landscapes of Switzerland and the ideal balance between well ordered hamlets and grand mountain views. Today, the snow capped mountains, wide lakes and green pastures with traditional wooden houses continue to be a highlight of any travel through the country. Witnessing the unfolding countryside at handlebar level from the charming lakeside city of Zurich to the alpine wonderland surrounding Interlaken is both unique and inspiring. Following a mainly dedicated cycle path the route winds its way between the towns of Lucerne, the capital city of Bern and the baroque city of Solothurn, past castles, thermal springs and the picturesque Rheinfall waterfall near Schaffhaussen. At night stay in comfortable family run hotels to truly soak up the famous Swiss hospitality.

Eg. the stained glass windows by Marc Chagall in the Fraumümster Kirche. During summer the lakeside comes alive with ongoing attractions and entertainment. You will receive your bike either today or first thing in the morning. Overnight stay in Zurich.
Day 2 Cycle along the shores of Lake Zurich then by train to Einsiedeln (35km)
The cycle begins with a relatively easy stretch along Lake Zurich towards Rapperswil with its old castle. After a short visit you cross over the lake along a dam. You will be taken by train to Einsiedeln, which to this day is still a popular place of pilgrimage. Overnight stay in Einsiedeln.
Day 3 Cycle through typical Swiss countryside to Lucerne (60km)
Today’s cycling will be through quiet countryside and lively villages as you pass Lake Ägeri and Lake Zug. Küssnacht, Wilhelm Tell and Hohle Gasse are all Swiss national symbols which you will see today before cycling along Lake Lucerne and reaching the city of the same name, where you will stay overnight.
Day 4 Cycle through stunning mountain vistas, then train to Interlaken (60km)
The mountains to the left and right of Lake Sarner and Lake Lungerer continue to get higher. You will take the train to get over the famous Brüning mountain pass. Passing Lake Brienz you will reach your destination; the spa town of Interlaken between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. Overnight stay in Interlaken.
Day 5 By boat on Lake Thun then cycle to Bern (35km)
The day begins with a boat trip on Lake Thun, before you cycle on to Bern. Goethe thought Bern was the most beautiful city in Switzerland. The old town is a world heritage site. Overnight stay in Bern.
Day 6 Cycle to the Swiss watch-making town of Biel/Bienne (50km)

Today’s stage is only short so that you have enough time to enjoy the old town or the Lake. Solothurn is also a Canton capital city and is considered the most beautiful baroque city in Switzerland. Overnight stay in Solothurn.
Day 8 Cycle along the Aare River to the town of Aarau (60km)
The river landscape of the, by now large, Aare dominates the landscape. Villages and meadows lie along the route to Aarau, which is still marked by the 16th Century and was once the capital town of the Helvetic Republic. Overnight stay in Aarau.

After breakfast your cycling tour of Switzerland comes to an end.
